Celebrating the achievements of the students on the BA (Hons) in Screen Industry Practice (Level 8) RPL programme at TU Dublin
Posted: 15th July 2026
In June, Screen Ireland and the School of Media at TU Dublin celebrated with the students of the BA (Hons) in Screen Industry Practice as they presented their final major projects, the last component of their 18-month journey to a Level 8 degree. Students came from a wide variety of backgrounds in the Screen Industries and all have extensive industry experience which fed directly into their final projects.
The format of the major project is dictated by the researcher’s experience and relevance to the topic, ranging from written dissertations to documentaries, policy reports and exhibitions. The research conducted by the students included:
- Silence in Class: An exploration of the hidden barriers for working class people to a career in the Irish Film & TV sector
- End Of The Night: Why should nightclubs try to survive in the face of progressive culture decline in Dublin?
- From Hand to Hybrid: Retaining prop making skills in the digital future of film making
- Visualising Cultural Conflict: Alice Kyteler’s trial through graphic narrative
- Can Generative AI Be Creative?: A short drama film as a case study
- Hey! What are you lookin’ at? What does RTÉ know about the people not watching its output, and what is it doing to reach them?
- The Technical Emotion: An exploration of the links between modelmaking and the professional art world.
- Patterns and Meaning: Generative AI Video, Human Direction and the Future of Narrative Filmmaking
- Sin É: Best practice leadership manual for the Irish TV & Film industry
- Beyond the Timeline: A Practitioner-Led Investigation into Creativity, Process and Time in Screen Editing Practice
- The Final Rewrite: The influence of female film editors on narrative cinema

About the BA (Hons) in Screen Industry Practice
The BA (Hons) in Screen Industry Practice is an 18-month part-time programme, with a focus on critical reflection and self-directed learning. Aimed at experienced professionals who have been working in the screen industries for more than seven years, it is delivered in a flexible mode to allow participants to continue in full-time careers.
Potential learners gain entry to the programme via RPEL––recognition of prior experiential learning. This means that colleagues who have not had the opportunity to engage in formal study, but who can demonstrate, via a substantial portfolio, that they have achieved learning in the workplace, comparable to National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ) Level 7, can enter the equivalent of the final year of a four-year degree programme
