Classify an Irish short film: Screen Ireland partners with IFCO for Culture Night 2025
Posted: 19th August 2025
Fís Éireann/Screen Ireland is delighted to partner with the Irish Film Classification Office (IFCO) to invite film enthusiasts to discover the world of film classification and view a curated selection of Screen Ireland short films on Culture Night, taking place on Friday 19th September.
Earlier this year, IFCO published the new Classification Guidelines that guide their decisions. A great deal of consideration goes into each classification decision made by IFCO and the Office is delighted to have the opportunity to share this process.
For this Culture Night event, IFCO has collaborated with Screen Ireland, Ireland’s national agency for the Irish film, television drama, animation and documentary industry and creative partner to the sector. Screen Ireland has curated a selection of Irish short films, for different ages, to be screened at the event. The screening of the short films will be followed by a discussion with the audience about the IFCO guidelines that underpin all classification decisions. The event will look at how IFCO comes to a decision, and why a particular age rating would be applied.
There will be several screenings on the night suitable for different ages, please make sure that you book tickets to a screening suitable for you and your children.
As the intention of the event is to invite the public to rate a film as part of a discussion and learning environment, the IFCO classification and consumer advice for the short films will not be indicated to attendees until after the event.
If you are a parent/guardian and have any questions about the official IFCO classification for short films in advance, you are more than welcome to contact IFCO@dhr.ie.
