Congratulations to all the Irish Nominees as 2017 IFTA Nominations are Announced
Posted: 8th March 2017
Bord Scannán na hÉireann/the Irish Film Board (IFB) congratulates the nominees for the 2017 Irish Film and Television Awards, which were announced today. A host of IFB-supported films will compete in various categories in the ceremony which takes place on 8 April.
The nominees for Best Film include Peter Foott’s The Young Offenders; Darren Thornton’s A Date For Mad Mary; Jim Sheridan’s The Secret Scripture; Richie Smyth’s The Siege of Jadotville; Juanita Wilson’s Tomato Red and Whit Stillman’s Love & Friendship.
Foott’s smash-hit Cork-set comedy, The Young Offenders scored six nominations, including nods for Best Director and Best Actor for Alex Murphy. Murphy will be up against the likes of Jamie Dornan, Michael Fassbender, Colm Meaney and Mark O’Halloran for the coveted award.
A Date for Mad Mary's Seána Kerslake will compete against Ruth Negga in the Best Actress in a Leading Role category, with Negga nominated for her turn as Mildred Loving in Jeff Nichols’, Loving. Negga’s IFTA nomination comes after what has been a stellar year for the Limerick-born actress, which culminated in an Academy Award nomination. Catherine Walker will also battle it out for the Best Actress IFTA for her role in Liam Gavin’s horror flick, A Dark Song.
Peter Foott, Darren Thornton, Jim Sheridan, and Richie Smyth are all up for Best Director while Sundance favourites It’s Not Yet Dark and In Loco Parentis feature among the nominees for George Morrison Feature Documentaries.
The 2017 IFTAs will be held in the Mansion House in Dublin. See below for a full list of film and drama nominees:
