Fís Éireann/Screen Ireland is proud to support the 36th Galway Film Fleadh and the line-up of industry panels, events and masterclasses taking place for emerging and established filmmakers and industry professionals throughout the festival’s run.
In addition to a diverse line-up across the film programme – the industry line-up for the festival includes masterclasses, discussion panels, networking events, and the Fleadh Forum day on Thursday, 11th July 2024.
Fleadh Forum

Screen Ireland is proud to support the Fleadh Forum at the 36th Galway Film Fleadh. From deep dives into recent Irish film success stories to updates on sustainability initiatives in the screen sector, this day-long event will provide a range of panels, talks and case studies for filmmakers and industry professionals to explore and exchange ideas. This year's forum will feature a chat with veteran independent producer Ted Hope on approaches to working with new directorial talent; a discussion on the distribution and success of recent Irish films Kneecap and That They May Face The Rising Sun; a keynote on current sustainable production practices on Irish film and television productions; a panel exploring strategies and resources for building regional production hubs with Donegal as a case study; and a discussion panel on the current distribution and financing landscape featuring leading European distributors, sales agents, financiers and producers.

Fireside Chat with HBO's Jay Roewe at the Galway Film Fleadh

Screen Ireland is delighted to invite Jay Roewe, Senior Vice President of Production, Global Incentives and Production Planning at HBO/MAX/Warner Brothers Discovery for a special industry talk at this year’s Galway Film Fleadh. Throughout the course of his HBO career, Jay has been involved with projects ranging from Real Time with Bill Maher and Game of Thrones to Succession and The Last of Us. Jay will share insights into his current role, experience and knowledge of the global filmmaking infrastructure, trends in the high-end production sector, the importance of skills and talent development, opportunities and challenges for the Irish screen sector, and the latest developments for HBO.
Masterclasses at the Galway Film Fair

Screen Ireland is delighted to support the Filmmakers' Masterclasses at this year's Galway Film Fleadh. The annual masterclass series at the Fleadh’s industry section, Galway Film Fair, offers screen industry professionals a unique chance to learn from experts in their respective fields, in an intimate engaging environment. Renowned British actor Tim Roth (Reservoir Dogs, Rob Roy, Lie to Me) will deliver this year’s Actors Masterclass and award-winning Singaporean writer, director and producer Anthony Chen (The Breaking Ice, Drift) will lead the Directors Masterclass.

Festival Programmers' Panel & Networking Session

Many of the world’s major international film festivals travel to the Fleadh to see new titles and meet filmmakers. This networking session is an opportunity for Irish filmmakers, producers, festival programmers and resource organisations to engage directly, hear about festival planning timelines and programming policies and discuss future plans and projects. The session will hear from a panel of international festival programmers followed by a networking opportunity.

Pitching for Games 101

The Work Life Balance

Screen Producers Ireland and Screen Guilds of Ireland are launching a new Work Life Balance best practice guide which is intended to promote flexibility for everyone working in production (crew and producers). The guide informs on best practice approaches on managing the working day such as split days, meal breaks, night shoots etc. It also includes key provisions of the Work Life Balance and Miscellaneous Provisions Act 2023, which allows requests to be made for flexible working, domestic violence leave and leave for medical or caring purposes. This best practice guide has been published to complement the SPI/SIPTU Shooting Crew Agreement 2021. A panel discussion will take place consisting of producers and crew and their experiences of the importance of work life balance on set.
IFTA Lunch & Networking

IFTA invites academy members to attend the annual networking lunch at the Galway Film Fleadh. Academy Members are invited to enjoy some delicious food, drinks and networking with the membership network and industry Fleadh attendees. This special lunchtime event is an opportunity for IFTA academy members and key Fleadh delegates to meet with each other in a relaxed and informal setting, at the heart of the festival’s industry activities.
Women and Craft in Irish Film

This is a panel of women film practitioners from the craft areas of Irish cinema – including costume design, cinematography, editing and post-production, telling stories and sharing their experiences. This panel will put on record the diverse and comprehensive roles women hold in film craft areas. It is about celebrating traditional and non-traditional roles for women and shining the light on this aspect of the film story.

Wild Atlantic Pitching Competition

The Pitching Competition at the Film Fleadh supported by Wild Atlantic Pictures has provided many screenwriters with an opportunity to get their first toehold in the industry. All that is required to enter is a 500-word written pitch (from beginning to end – no cliff-hangers!). Writers applying can be at any stage of their career. No experience is required. Any genre of feature drama, documentary or animation will be considered. Finalists will be selected to pitch their idea as an ‘Elevator Pitch’ of 90 seconds, in front of an audience and a panel of industry judges on the closing day of the Galway Film Fleadh. The winner will be announced at the Film Fleadh Awards Ceremony and will receive a cash prize of €3000.

A Public Interview with Brian Cox

The Galway Film Fleadh, in association with IFTA, is set to welcome star of stage and screen, Brian Cox (Troy, Zodiac, The Bourne Trilogy, Succession) for a highly anticipated public interview as part of the 36th edition of the festival, offering a rare chance to hear from this award-winning and esteemed actor. RTÉ Arena presenter, Seán Rocks will be conducting the interview.

Ayahuasca: A Spiritual Reality Experience
