CPH:DOX unveils complete 2024 line-up, including Ciaran Cassidy’s Housewife of the Year
Posted: 21st February 2024
Fís Éireann/Screen Ireland is delighted to congratulate Ciaran Cassidy, Maria Horgan and the creative team behind the Screen Ireland supported documentary Housewife of the Year on its selection at CPH:DOX, where it will receive its World Premiere on Friday, 15th March.
The festival today revealed the full line-up of its 2024 edition after announcing last week the films nominated across its six awards category. Alessandra Celesia's The Flats had previously been announced to make its World Premiere at the festival, where it will compete for the DOX:AWARD.
A staple of Irish television between 1968 and 1995, it would be hard to believe ‘Housewife of the Year’, the surreal television competition celebrating the role of the housewife, actually existed – if it were not for the treasure trove of archive footage and accounts from ex-contestants. Through the testimonies of past contestants, Ciaran Cassidy's documentary looks back on a beige-coloured chapter in Irish TV history and explores the shocking gap between what the audience saw on television and the reality of life for women in Ireland at the time.
Housewife of the Year is produced by Maria Horgan for Little Wing Films. It is proudly supported by Fís Éireann/Screen Ireland, RTÉ, SVT, DR, NRK and HOT8.
CPH:DOX will take place from Wednesday, 13th March to Sunday, 24th March, screening more than 200 new films representing the perspectives of filmmakers from all over the world. More information and tickets can be found here.
