Damian McCarthy’s Hokum to receive World Premiere at SXSW 2026
Posted: 5th February 2026
Fís Éireann/Screen Ireland is delighted to congratulate writer/director Damian McCarthy, Irish production company Tailored Films and the entire team behind Irish-US production Hokum, which has been selected to make its World Premiere at South by Southwest (SXSW) 2026.
Hokum stars Adam Scott as a horror writer who visits an Irish inn to scatter his parents' ashes, unaware the property is said to be haunted by a witch. The film is set to premiere in the Midnighter section of the festival on Saturday 14th March.
The film is produced by Spooky Pictures founders Roy Lee and Steven Schneider, Image Nation’s Derek Dauchy and Tailored Films' Ruth Treacy, Julianne Forde and Mairtín de Barra. Executive producers include Cweature Features’ Ken Kao and Josh Rosenbaum, as well as Ben Ross, Dan Kagan, Rami Yasin, Andrew Childs, and Team Thrives’ Bryan Meng and Dr. Terence Chan. The film is proudly supported by Fís Éireann/Screen Ireland.
Neon has picked up worldwide rights for the film and will release Hokum theatrically in the US this year.
Irish film and TV received a strong response at last year's SXSW; John Kelly's Retirement Plan picked up the Best Animated Short and Audience Award, while 6 other Irish-produced projects featured on the programme.
SXSW 2026 takes place from March 12th-18th 2026. Learn more here.
