Fís Éireann/Screen Ireland is proud to support the Fleadh Forum at the 35th Galway Film Fleadh this year. With an exceptional line-up of case studies, panel discussions and industry talks for filmmakers and industry professionals to explore and exchange ideas, the event is not to be missed.
Joined by a host of industry experts, Screen Ireland have curated five separate panels and keynote covering TV drama financing, using hit series Kin as a case study; how to scale up and build a creative, sustainable business; new hybrid models and the potential revolution of screen financing; a keynote from Eurimages Executive Director Susan Newman Baudais updating the audience on the recent changes to Eurimages Funding; and virtual production as a storytelling tool with an accompanying practical ICVFX demonstration.
The Fleadh Forum will take place in the Veranda Suite in the Galmont Hotel on Thursday, 13th July from 12.30pm.

Panel 1: TV Drama Case Study: Kin

Kin has been a huge success, both at home and abroad. However, in addition to its critical success and strong audience response, it is also an example of an innovative hybrid Anglo/US and European-style financing structure. The project was financed by Headline Pictures and Bron, with Ireland’s RTE as the local commissioning network (“Anchor institution”) and the budget gap made up by international sales, handled through Fifth Season, to the likes of Viaplay for Scandinavia and AMC+ for the U.S.
Panel 2: Creative Futures: Scaling up and building a creative, sustainable business

Chaired by Screen Ireland, who launched a Creative Futures Fund focusing on developing Irish production companies of scale, this panel will feature a mix of established, emerging, Irish, and international producers, to explore the process of scaling your company, the challenges that this entails, and the skills and supports needed to achieve success.
Panel 3: New adventures in Screen Finance & Co-production

Traditional funding models, for TV drama and film, are in a period of significant evolution. Both the “Anglo-American” model (pre-selling at Market, banking pre-sales, shooting with tax credits) and the “European model”, (supported by a cultural funding system and soft money, but often requiring private investment and/or multinational streaming deals) are becoming harder and harder to implement. New hybrid models, transatlantic amalgamations, blockchain technologies, and more innovations point to a potential revolution in screen financing. With a panel of experts, we will explore the new frontiers of screen finance.

Panel 4: Virtual Production – A Storytelling Tool

Virtual Production has become a critical tool in delivering top level VFX work in Ireland. Screen Ireland and High Res are delighted to host a practical ICVFX Virtual Production demonstration.
The session will examine virtual production’s uses in capturing in-camera VFX for screen. Demonstrating some virtual production techniques and workflows on a small LED screen, the session will discuss the use of virtual production as a creative tool.
