Don’t miss Industry Days at the 64th Cork Film Festival, supported by Screen Ireland

The 64th Cork Film Festival, which takes place from November 7th - 17th 2019, will host a series of Industry Days in partnership with Fís Éireann / Screen Ireland, Screen Skills Ireland and Culture Ireland. Through a series of events and panels, the Industry Days will provide invaluable opportunities for established and emerging filmmakers to connect and explore all aspects of today’s film industry.

Careers in Screen with Screen Skills Ireland, Wednesday 13 November

Careers in Screen at Cork Film Festival is a dynamic and interactive audience led event for transition year students, which aims to highlight the wide variety of career paths available in film and television; providing an instructive, educational and inspirational platform for participants. The event will explore the nature of filmmaking as a career and the different skillsets involved, and give a comprehensive look at the screen industry in Ireland. Speakers will provide open and honest accounts of their experiences working in the screen sector, and an insight into the collaborative process of film production. Case studies of major Cork productions, including ‘Float Like a Butterfly’ and  ‘The Young Offenders’, will be the focal point of the event, with contributions by members of the creative teams and key crew involved.

First Take, Thursday 14 November

First Take is a training and development event aimed specifically at newly established film professionals, emerging filmmakers, and film and media students which takes place on Thursday 14th of November. Case studies and panel discussions will promote fresh thinking amongst attendees and to inspire them to be proactive in promoting their own film work.

Sessions will include: Exploring Script Development with Chelsea Morgan-Hoffman, Development, Element Pictures, Demystifying Sales & Distribution with Síle Culley, Distribution & Audiences Consultant, Kyle Entwhitsle, Theatrical Manager, Curzon Artificial Eye and Patrick O’Neill, Managing Director, Wildcard Distribution, 50/50 by 2020 – The Quest for Gender Parity, Presented in partnership with Women in Film & Television Ireland with speakers Anna Bogutskaya, Festival Director, Underwire Festival, Fiona Clark, Director and CEO, Cork Film Festival, Diane Henderson, Deputy Artistic Director, Edinburgh International Film Festival and Susan Liddy, Chair, Women in Film & Television Ireland. The event will also include an Irish Feature Film Case Study on The Last Right with Writer/Director Aoife Crehan and Producers Pippa Cross and Paul Donovan.

Doc Day, Friday 15 November

Doc Day will take place on Friday November 15th and, in partnership with Screen Ireland and Screen Skills Ireland, will inform, inspire and connect established and emerging directors, producers and writers with international producers, directors, programmers, sales agents, distributors and film sector leaders, to further understand and develop opportunities in the documentary landscape.

Sessions at Doc Day 2019 will include: Distributing Docs | Managing Festival, Theatrical and VOD with Robert Beeson, Managing Director, New Wave Films, Gillian Cooper, Distribution Executive, Wildcard Distribution, Marcel Karst, Head of Theatrical Sales, Dogwoof and Avalon Lydon, Director of Theatrical Marketing, MUBI, The Art of the Short Doc with Adrian Duncan, Co-Director, Floating Structures, Cara Holmes, Director, Welcome To A Bright, White Limbo and Mia Mullarkey, Director, Mother & Baby, Working with the Archives with Vanessa Gildea, Director / Producer / Archival Researcher, Michael Hewitt, Director, Lost Lives, Kyle Martin, Producer, Recorder: The Marion Stokes Project, Clare Stronge, Archival Producer and Miriam Walsh, Archival Producer.

Focus: Filmmaker Forum, Saturday 16th November

After the success of its inaugural edition in 2018, Cork Film Festival returns with the Focus: Filmmaker Forum on Saturday November 16th. This free forum offers attending filmmakers an opportunity to take part in an informal networking event comprising a series of round-table sessions aimed at guiding participants through the entire process of making their short or feature film. Participants will partake in five 15-minute group sessions, which will take them through development, financing, production, festival strategy and distribution. Key Irish and international film industry players will take questions and give advice on their field of expertise, imparting attendees with guidance and knowledge to help efficiently produce and exploit their film.
