Éanna Hardwicke to be honoured with Oscar Wilde Award

Posted: 21st January 2025

Irish actor Éanna Hardwicke has been announced as the recipient of the “Wilde Card” Award at the upcoming 19th annual Oscar Wilde Awards. The Wilde Card Award recognises rising talent, with previous recipients including Eve Hewson, Dónall Ó Héalai, Jenn Murray, Sarah Bolger, and Saoirse Ronan.

US-Ireland Alliance founder Trina Vargo said:

Everyone involved with our organization, and the Oscar Wilde Awards, is saddened by the devastation resulting from the recent fires. We know how much the fires have disrupted the lives of many of our friends, the entertainment community, and the broader Los Angeles community. We briefly considered cancelling, but many told us that they were looking forward to this. We hope the event will provide a respite, for at least an evening.”

Éanna Hardwicke began acting at a very young age, participating in youth theatre at the Gaiety School of Acting's Cork campus, National Association of Youth Drama (NAYD), and Cork School of Music. His first professional credit was as a child actor in Conor McPherson's 2009 horror film The Eclipse. He is a graduate of The Lír, Ireland’s National Academy of Dramatic Art at Trinity College Dublin. Just prior to graduation, Éanna was cast alongside Imogen Poots and Jesse Eisenberg in the feature film Vivarium, which premiered at Cannes in 2019. He then went on to play roles in Normal People; Fate: The Winx Saga for Netflix; The Sparrow; Lakelands; Smother; and The Doll Factory, among others. He received several awards for his role in the BBC1 drama The Sixth Commandment alongside Timothy Spall and Anne Reid. His short film At Arm's Length, co-written with Tom Monahan, was funded through Screen Ireland's Actor as Creator scheme and premiered at the Galway Film Fleadh in 2022. He was one of the 10 up-and-coming actors, directors, producers and writers to be selected as part of Screen International and Screen Ireland's inaugural Rising Stars Ireland line-up.

Éanna’s most recent projects were A Very Royal Scandal and the soon-to-be released Saipan, in which he plays Irish football captain, Roy Keane, to Steve Coogan’s Mick McCarthy. He is currently filming the feature No Ordinary Heist alongside Eddie Marsan.

The US-Ireland Alliance’s 19th annual Oscar Wilde Awards will be held on 27th February 2025 at the Ebell of Los Angeles. Fís Éireann/Screen Ireland and Northern Ireland Screen are among the night’s sponsors.
