Fís Éireann/Screen Ireland congratulates Element Pictures on an incredible 18 British Independent Film Awards (BIFA) nominations, which were announced in London today, 31 October.  The Irish production and distribution company received the nominations for Yorgos Lanthimos’ The Favourite and  Sebastián Lelio’s Disobedience, with the two Element-produced titles both nominated for Best British Independent Film.

The Favourite leads the charge for the 2018 ceremony, nominated for 13 awards including major nods such as Best Director, Best Actress, Best Supporting Actress, Best Screenplay and a host of technical awards.

Irish cinematographer Robbie Ryan also received a nomination for his work on The Favourite, while Barry Keoghan is nominated for Best Supporting Actor for American Animals and Jessie Buckley for Most Promising Newcomer for her Beast. Northern Irish film The Dig is also nominated for The Discovery Award.

Congratulating Element Pictures, Screen Ireland Chief Executive James Hickey said: “It is a tremendous day for Ireland’s Element Pictures and this is an honour richly deserved. Two of the five Best Film nominees are Element titles and they have received nominations in essentially every category.

“Screen Ireland is incredibly proud to have worked with Element down through the years on films such as the Oscar®-winning Room, Cannes favourite The Lobster and of course one of the most commercially successful Irish films of the last decade, The Guard. We wish them every success for this year’s BIFAs.”

The Favourite was developed under Screen Ireland's Company Development Initiative (CDI) slate funding scheme.
