Father Mother Sister Brother to receive World Premiere at the 2025 Venice International Film Festival

Fís Éireann / Screen Ireland is delighted to congratulate the creative team behind Irish film Father Mother Sister Brother on its selection for the 82nd Venice International Film Festival, where it will receive its World Premiere.

Written and directed by Jim Jarmusch, the film will screen in Competition, which highlights the best in contemporary global cinema and is eligible for the prestigious Golden Lion. This marks director Jim Jarmusch’s first time presenting a narrative feature in competition at Venice.

Father Mother Sister Brother is an US/France/Ireland co-production, exploring emotional distance and familial connection through three stories: Father set in the Northeastern United States, Mother in Dublin, and Sister Brother in Paris. The film features an ensemble cast including Cate Blanchett, Adam Driver, Vicky Krieps, Tom Waits, Mayim Bialik, Charlotte Rampling, Indya Moore, and Luka Sabbat.

Father Mother Sister Brother was produced by Charles Gillibert, Joshua Astrachan, Carter Logan and Atilla Salih Yücer. The film is presented by MUBI, Saint Laurent by Anthony Vaccarello and The Apartment (a Fremantle Company), in association with Jarmusch’s badjetlag and Gillibert’s CG Cinema, Cinema Inutile, Films du Losange and Weltkino. In Ireland, the film was co-produced by Hail Mary Pictures, and supported by Fís Éireann/Screen Ireland. Lenders were Cofiloisirs and Three Point Capital.

About the Venice Film Festival

La Biennale di Venezia dates back to 1895 and celebrates excellence in visual arts, cinema, dance, music, theatre, and architecture. The Venice International Film Festival, established in 1932, is the oldest in the world and remains one of the most prestigious.

The 82nd edition of the festival takes place from 27 August to 6 September 2025 at Venice Lido. The main Competition jury is chaired by director Alexander Payne, and a Lifetime Achievement Award will be presented to legendary filmmaker Werner Herzog.
