Fís Éireann/Screen Ireland Chair Susan Bergin to Step Down from Board
Posted: 30th May 2024
Fís Éireann/Screen Ireland would like to announce that Susan Bergin has stepped down from her position as Chair of the Screen Ireland Board due to other commitments, having served for three years. The Board and Executive at the agency would like to take this opportunity to extend our sincere thanks to Susan for her leadership, steadfast commitment, and support of the Irish screen industry during her tenure.
During Susan’s tenure as Chair of the Board of Fís Éireann/Screen Ireland, the agency developed Building For A Creative Future 2024: a three-year strategic plan that is on course to be delivered this year.
In recent years, the Irish screen industry has experienced enormous levels of growth and success, with the Irish film and television landscape deemed a “global force” by Variety in 2024. These past three years have been marked by a series of major milestones for Irish film – beginning in 2021, which saw a record-breaking year for film and television production, with a spend in the Irish economy of over €500 million. In 2022, international production activity grew by 45%, whilst in 2023, TV drama production spend grew by 16%. This year, Irish film has already experienced a wave of festival achievements across Sundance, Berlin and most recently, the Cannes Film Festival.
A new Chairperson for Screen Ireland will be announced by the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport, and Media in due course.
