Posted: 26th May 2020

Fís Éireann/Screen Ireland is delighted to launch a series of short social media videos for a behind the scenes focus on the crew behind Normal People. The TV series has been a widespread hit in the US, UK and Ireland, where it is currently broadcasting weekly on BBC One and RTE One. Normal People is an Element Pictures production for Hulu and BBC Three, adapted from the award-winning novel by Sally Rooney.

As the national development agency for the Irish film, television and animation industry, Screen Ireland supports and develops creative talent, and is proud of Ireland's highly skilled screen industry professionals. These bitesize videos aim to showcase the talented and experienced creatives who worked behind the scenes on the show: from costume design to casting.

The first video of the series details the process of finding Marianne and Connell with casting director Louise Kiely, whose work on casting Normal People has been singled out for praise. In it, she describes the Irish acting scene as always full of “humour, and a little bit of cool”.
