Fís Éireann/Screen Ireland Launches Health and Safety Guide for Irish Screen Industry

Posted: 8th December 2021

Fís Éireann/Screen Ireland (Screen Ireland) has today launched a Health and Safety Guide to provide guidance health and safety for all professionals working in film and television. The document covers the key health and safety legislation, outlines best practice, and directs users to other relevant bodies and resources, including risk assessment templates.

This guide, which was developed in close consultation with Screen Producers Ireland, Screen Guilds of Ireland, CMSE Safety Consultants & Training, SIPTU, and the wider industry, was launched at an online panel event with industry contributors this morning. It is now freely available via the Guide to Filmmaking section of the Screen Ireland website and the resources section of the Screen Skills Ireland website.

The guide aims to promote a safer and healthier workplace environment for those working in the Irish screen sector by raising the standard of awareness around safe working practices, as well as providing practical advice for employers and crew members across all departments. It is also intended to serve as a resource for new entrants to the sector to build their confidence around safety on set.

Speaking about the guide, Screen Ireland Chief Executive Désirée Finnegan, said, “The Health and Safety Guide will be an important resource for both individuals and companies in the creative screen sector, as we work together to continue to promote safe working practices at all levels. We would like to thank everyone who contributed to this guide and we look forward to working closely with the industry to continue to build a robust and positive culture around health and safety in the sector.”

In addition to the guide, Screen Ireland will launch a new health and safety course called Screen Pass in early 2022. Screen Pass, which will be offered online and free of charge to all industry professionals, will contain key information on preventing accidents and encouraging a positive health and safety culture on set.
