Fís Éireann/Screen Ireland Pays Tribute to James Flynn

Posted: 13th February 2023

The Board and Executive at Fís Éireann/Screen Ireland would like to pay tribute to leading Irish film and television producer James Flynn who has sadly passed away.

James was passionate about cinema and made an enormous contribution to the Irish screen industry over the last thirty years. Beginning his career working with John Boorman, he went on to play a key role working as Business Manager and Deputy Chief Executive at Bord Scannán na hÉireann/Irish Film Board (now Fís Éireann/Screen Ireland) during a critical time in terms of the early development of the agency, helping to lay the foundation for the success the industry has achieved over the last twenty years.

James went to produce a huge body of work over three decades with Irish film & TV credits including Calvary, As If I’m Not There, Ondine, Kin, Love/HateTomato Red, Inside I’m Dancing and the Academy Award nominated short film The Door. His major international credits include Disenchanted, The Last Duel, Penny DreadfulVikings, The TudorsRaw and The Borgias and more recently The Banshees of Inisherin.

James Flynn continued to play an important role in developing the Irish screen industry to where it is today, working on the board of Screen Producers Ireland, Screen Training Ireland and he was always generous with his time helping to develop the next generation of filmmakers.

His passing is an enormous loss to the Irish screen industry. Our thoughts are with his wife Juanita, his family, friends and colleagues at this time.
