Five and a Half Love Stories in an Apartment in Vilnius, Lithuania to receive World Premiere at Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival

Screen Ireland is delighted to congratulate Tomas Vengris, Tiger Darling Productions and the creative team behind Five and a Half Love Stories in an Apartment in Vilnius, Lithuania, as the film has been selected to receive its World Premiere at the 27th Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival. The Lithuania-Ireland-Latvia co-production will screen as part of the festival's Rebels With A Cause strand, which showcases films that experiment with form and rebel against conventional filmmaking tropes or political ideas.
Tomas Vengris's story is bound by one place – an apartment in Vilnius. The empty flat is rented to various guests from Israel, Hungary, Poland, and Ireland. With every online reservation, a new story of love, hate, hope, and guilt evolves between the walls of the old building. The humble host Jolanta prepares the place for new temporary guests. She never meets them, isn't aware of what is happening in the apartment and just leaves the key as instructed. The director expands short stories with slight hints, returning visits, and missing or stolen things. He interacts with loud neighbours and observes Jolanta’s developing relationship with a kind-hearted helper.
Javier Garcia Puerto, the main curator of the Rebels With A Cause strand, said:
In the Rebels programme we don't challenge the audience, but we are dedicated to the audience that dares to challenge itself. There are as many styles as filmmakers want to try and practice. And we push those boundaries: from documentaries that cross over into fiction and grip you like a thriller, to bold, satirical political statements, including drug lord sagas that are colourful and surprising. Get ready for the adventure: all this ride is for the brave and devoted audiences who want to try how cinema can be more personal, unique and daring.
This year's Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival will take place from 3rd-19th November, with Five and a Half Love Stories in an Apartment in Vilnius, Lithuania receiving its World Premiere on the 14th. A Studio Uljana Kim, Tiger Darling Productions and Studio Locomotive production directed by Tomas Vengras and co-written by Tomas Vengris and Tatia Rosenthal, the film is proudly supported by Screen Ireland.
