Four eclectic, original animated short films selected for Frameworks, the flagship scheme co-funded with RTÉ

Fís Éireann/Screen Ireland is delighted to announce the successful teams for the 2023 edition of its Frameworks animated short film scheme, co-funded with RTÉ.
Frameworks is a flagship scheme for the Irish animation sector, now in its 28th edition. The scheme has produced short films that have gone on to major international success, including Academy Award nominations (Louise Bagnall's Late Afternoon, Nicky Phelan's Granny O'Grimm's Sleeping Beauty) and World Premieres at major film festivals like Tribeca, Annecy and Sundance.

After a highly competitive selection process, the four final projects are as diverse and eclectic as they are imaginative and visionary. They tell stories from around the world, stories of connection and isolation, stories full of humour and humanity. We can’t wait to see all four short films make their World Premiere next year and start their festival journey.”

The four successful teams and projects for Frameworks are:
- Tadhana
Co-written and co-directed by Deither Kirby Jay and Jessie Lopez, produced by Carla Vulpiani.
A journey of a young woman’s reconciling with her own past and her detachment to the life that she now lives.
- ReRooted
Written by Delphine Coudray, co-directed by Christian Spurling and Delphine Coudray, produced by Michael Lee.
A bored warehouse worker's quest for an enduring legacy as an animator takes a darkly comedic turn when she signs up for an eco-friendly burial.
- Mero
Co-written by Lauren Coe and Jack Phelan, directed by Jack Phelan, produced by Claire Lennon.
A self-conscious young woman braves the big city. In a café, she's rewarded for her courage by meeting someone just like her.
- Retirement Plan
Written by John Kelly and Tara Lawall, directed by John Kelly, produced by Julie Murnaghan.
A man at apathy with his life dreams of the beauty and joy he will find in retirement.
The most recent slate of Frameworks shorts are fresh from their World Premiere at this year's Galway Film Fleadh, where Jessica Patterson's Worry World won the James Horgan Award for Best Animation Short.
