Four original animated short films have been selected for Frameworks 2025, Screen Ireland and RTÉ’s short film scheme

Fís Éireann/Screen Ireland is delighted to announce the successful teams for the 30th edition of its Frameworks animated short film scheme, in partnership with RTÉ.

Frameworks is a flagship scheme for the Irish animation sector, and has produced short films that have gone on to major international success, including Academy Award nominations and World Premieres at major film festivals like SXSW, Tribeca, Annecy and Sundance.

Emma Scott, Head of Audiences at Fís Éireann/Screen Ireland, said:

"Screen Ireland is delighted to announce and congratulate the filmmaking teams selected for this year’s Frameworks scheme. Now in its 30th year, Frameworks continues to champion the visual storytelling and creative excellence Irish animation is so renowned for, and, in partnership with RTÉ, we’re proud to continue supporting new and emerging voices across the animation industry. We’re looking forward to sharing these eclectic and beautiful short films with new audiences, at home and around the world.”

The successful projects and teams for the 2025 round of Frameworks are:

Rat Story 

When Johnny kills a rat, part of him dies with it. 

Written and directed by John Kelly, and produced by Emma Keane.

SYNCYTIUM 

A mortal encounters a celestial being in the woods, whose magical flute controls the flow of time. 

Written and directed by Josh O'Caoimh and Mikai Geronimo, and produced by Claire Lennon.

Sceillic

On a remote Irish island, a single day unfolds through fleeting moments across time, from the ancient past to the distant future. 

Written and directed by Paul Ruttledge and produced by Julie Murnaghan.

On the Berry 

Written and directed by Niamh Asple and James Naughton, and produced by Jonathan Clarke.

During the strawberry boom of 1970s Wexford; a group of siblings find mischief and adventure in being forced to spend their summer picking berries.
