Posted: 23rd December 2024
Fís Éireann/Screen Ireland is delighted to announce that its flagship animated short film scheme Frameworks, in partnership with RTÉ, is now open for applications. Focus Shorts, for live action short films, opened for applications last month. Supporting new and emergiing filmmakers, both flagship short film schemes have a long tradition of showcasing and introducing Irish talent to audiences around the world.
We are seeking authentic voices telling diverse stories by filmmakers from a variety of backgrounds. In keeping with Screen Ireland’s commitment to Diversity, Inclusion and Gender Equality, Focus Shorts particularly welcomes teams who reflect these values both on-screen and off.
Frameworks - Animation
Frameworks, which is co-funded by RTÉ, is a flagship scheme for the Irish animation sector, and has produced award-winning films to a consistently high standard. Projects selected for funding will combine creative exploration with an ability to appeal to a general audience, though not necessarily aimed at children.
Up to four Frameworks projects will be selected to go into production, each between two and five minutes in duration. Budgets can be between €13,000 and €14,500 per minute, depending on format.
The deadline for applications is 1pm on Friday, 7th March 2025, and applications are open now.
Focus Shorts - Live Action
Focus Shorts is a short film scheme for the making of live-action, fiction films that act as a proving-ground for Irish creative talents aspiring to write, direct and produce films for the cinema. Focus Shorts aims to encourage strong, original storytelling, visual flair, and production values appropriate to the big screen. It offers an opportunity for producers, directors and writers to work in a professional environment that will bring their experience up to a higher level and can be seen as a stepping stone for more ambitious projects.
Focus Shorts can be up to ten minutes in length and receive a budget of up to €70,000.
The deadline for applications is 1pm on Friday, 7th February 2025, and applications are open now.
