Fís Éireann/Screen Ireland is delighted to congratulate writer/director Frank Berry and the creative team behind Aisha on the film’s Official Selection to the Tribeca Film Festival. The highly anticipated line-up for Tribeca also includes Irish short film Lamb, written and directed by Sinead O’Loughlin.

Aisha stars actors Letitia Wright and Josh O’Connor, and will receive its World Premiere in New York at the festival in June. The emotive drama is selected as part of the festival’s Spotlight Narrative strand - featuring anticipated premieres from acclaimed filmmakers and performers, acting as a launching pad for the most buzzworthy new films.

Aisha charts the experiences of a young Nigerian woman as she seeks international protection in Ireland. Caught in limbo for years in Ireland's immigration system, Aisha Osagie (Wright) develops a friendship with former prisoner Conor Healy (O'Connor) who she meets at one of the accommodation centres. Aisha and Conor's growing friendship soon looks to be short lived as Aisha's future in Ireland comes under threat.

Frank Berry, writer and director of Aisha, said:

"We are all thrilled that AISHA will have its world premiere at the prestigious Tribeca Festival. It’s been a very special experience making this film with an extraordinary cast and crew and we’re really looking forward to sharing it with audiences."

Aisha is produced by Tristan Orpen Lynch, Donna Eperon, Aoife O'Sullivan and Sam Bisbee.

Irish short film Lamb is also in Official Selection at the Tribeca Film Festival this year, in the festival’s short film programme. Chosen out of a record-breaking 7,200 short film submissions, Lamb is supported by Screen Ireland as part of its Focus Shorts scheme for emerging filmmakers with bold and original voices. Written and directed by Sinead O’Loughlin, an ordinary day takes a sinister turn for a woman and her child when a stranger walks into their isolated rural home. The film is produced by Lara Hickey for Copper Alley Productions.

As part of the Tribeca at Home programme, animated short film Bardo screens on the 8th June. In Bardo, a woman questions her lifestyle choices when the travails of urban living are one day jolted into juxtaposition with a simpler way of life. Supported by Screen Ireland and RTÉ's flagship animated short film scheme, Framework, the short will be available to audiences across the US for the duration of the festival. Bardo is written and directed by Aisling Conroy, and produced by Claire Lennon for And Maps and Plans.

In its 21st edition this year, the Tribeca Film Festival 2022 will feature 110 feature films from 150 filmmakers across 40 countries. The Tribeca Film Festival will take place in New York from 8th June to the 19th June, 2022.
