IFTA Announces 2024 Nominations for Irish Academy Awards

The Irish Film & Television Academy (IFTA) has announced the 2024 IFTA Nominations for the Irish Academy Awards across 28 categories in Film & Drama.
Nominations have been shortlisted by Irish Academy Members as well as specialist Jury panels of industry experts from around the world.
Across all film categories including craft and technical, Lies We Tell lead with 13 nominations, followed by That They May Face The Rising Sun and Double Blind with 11 nominations each, then LOLA with 7 nominations, Flora and Son received 6 nominations and Verdigris received nominations in 5 categories.
In the drama categories, Kin received 11 nominations, Obituary has 6 nominations, The Woman in the Wall received 5 nominations, Blues Lights, Vikings: Valhalla and Northern Lights each have 4 nominations.
This year’s Awards Ceremony will welcome Irish and international guests from all around the world for a great gathering of industry peers, to mark the incredible achievements of the Irish screen industry, at home and abroad. Actors, Filmmakers, and international guest presenters will join in the celebrations and help give due recognition for Irish talent and storytelling, and to reward excellence in Film and TV Drama.
Last week, IFTA announced that legendary actor Stephen Rea will be presented with the Irish Academy Award for his Lifetime Achievement, and for his outstanding contribution to the Irish and international screen industry.

Last week, IFTA announced that legendary actor Stephen Rea will be presented with the Irish Academy Award for his Lifetime Achievement, and for his outstanding contribution to the Irish and international screen industry. Award winners will be announced at the 21st Anniversary IFTA Awards Ceremony taking place on Saturday, April 20th at the Dublin Royal Convention Centre. The Awards will be hosted for the first time by Emmy-winning broadcaster Baz Ashmawy.
Best Film Nominees 2024
This year’s six nominated films in the Best Film category represent the high quality, as well as the diverse breadth of styles and genres, of films being produced in Ireland today.
Test subjects experience terrifying side effects in Ian Hunt-Duffy’s pharmaceutical horror-thriller Double Blind; John Carney delivers a new stirring ode to the power of songwriting in Flora and Son; Lisa Mulcahy adapts a classic Irish gothic tale for a new generation in Lies We Tell; Andrew Legge builds a quirky sci-fi fable set in WW2-era England in LOLA; Pat Collins brings John McGahern’s final rural masterpiece to screen with That They May Face The Rising Sun; and a woman seeks escape from her abusive marriage with a new life and unexpected friendship in Patricia Kelly’s Verdigris.
Best Drama Nominees 2024
Television drama in Ireland continues to go from strength to strength, and this year’s six nominated Drama series are bursting with heart, suspense, and twists that keep audiences on the edge of their seats. Blue Lights delivers a fast-paced Belfast police thriller with a packed ensemble cast; the return of Hidden Assets takes the action to Belgium as the Criminal Assets Bureau investigate a series of bombings; the notorious Kinsellas are back in the second season of all-star crime drama Kin; two grieving strangers see their worlds collide on a rainy Dublin evening in Northern Lights; a small town reporter resorts to murder to boost her workload in the darkly comedic Obituary; and the legacy of the Magdalene laundries casts a shadow on a modern mystery in The Woman in the Wall.
