Industry Events and Masterclasses at Virgin Media Dublin International Film Festival 2020

Fís Éireann/Screen Ireland is proud to support the Virgin Media Dublin International Film Festival, running from the 26th February to the 8th March 2020, with its diverse and eclectic selection of Irish features, short films, industry events and masterclasses.
At the festival this year, there is a wide range of industry-focused events designed to support and encourage discussions between international and Irish filmmakers. Screen Skills Ireland will support a number of masterclasses, as well as a special Distributor Focus morning event with Curzon Artificial Eye and Wildcard Distribution discussing best practice and case studies for the UK and Ireland.

Diversity Panel: Gender in Screen - Saturday 7th March, 2.00pm
Screen Ireland and VMDIFF 2020 has invited a group of Irish and international filmmakers to discuss the state of contemporary cinema and the strategies being used to bring about change.
Normal People Masterclass - Saturday 28th February, 11.30am
In anticipation of the upcoming television adaptation of Sally Rooney’s award-winning novel Normal People, we are delighted to present a panel discussion on the creation of the series. The panel is comprised of director Lenny Abrahamson and producers Catherine Magee and Ed Guiney, and is chaired by Screen Ireland Project Manager, Lesley McKimm. The panel will focus on the process of bringing the celebrated novel to the screen and will feature exclusive clips from the unreleased series. This will be followed by a Q&A from the audience.
Charlie Kaufman Screenwriting Masterclass - Thursday 5th March, 11.00am
Supported by Screen Skills Ireland, this screenwriting masterclass will provide the unique experience to hear directly from one of the film industry's most prolific and successful screenwriters and directors, Oscar-winning Charlie Kaufman (Being John Malkovich, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Adaptation). This is a fantastic opportunity for screenwriters and filmmakers to gain an insight into how Kaufman successfully navigated the film industry, how he developed such a recognisable and distinctive writing style, as well as how Kaufman's screenwriting career influenced his later directorial work.
Pawel Pawlikowski Directing Masterclass - Saturday 7th March, 11.00am
Supported by Screen Skills Ireland, this directing masterclass will provide filmmakers and industry professional with the opportunity to interrogate and evaluate the work of one of the world’s most acclaimed and renowned film directors, Oscar-winning director Paweł Pawlikowski.
Careers in Screen Day - Wednesday 4th March, 10.00am
Supported by Screen Skills Ireland, the Careers in Screen Day will offer an inspiring and innovative programme of events for young people from 16-18 years old, who are interested in finding out more about working in the film industry. This one day event aimed at Senior Year Secondary Level classes will unpack many of the different film and television departments and skills required. Meet and hear from industry professionals and learn more about the exciting career options available in Film and Television.
