EFAD brings together national film agencies to respond to the opportunities and challenges arising from the development of the market, regulation, and technology, as well as changes in society and culture.
Désirée Finnegan, Chief Executive of Fís Éireann/Screen Ireland, said:
"As part of Ireland's Presidency of the Council of the European Union, it is an honour for Screen Ireland to host the EFAD General Assembly, where national film agencies will meet to discuss key policy priorities for the audiovisual sector. At a time of extraordinary transformation for the global screen industry, we believe in the importance of strong partnerships and collaboration, with a shared vision for the future of European culture, heritage and diversity on screen."
The event will serve as a core forum for EFAD member countries to share and discuss major European audiovisual policy and industry developments, focusing on national cinema and cultural policy as a key priority. The programme will comprise of discussions and strategic planning in relation to European co-production and the future of the European audiovisual sector; an election of the EFAD board; a workshop to develop EFAD's new three-year strategy; and several panels and presentations on a range of topics related to the global screen sector.
The outgoing President of EFAD and CEO of the Croatian Film and Audiovisual Center, Chris Marcich, commented:
“EFAD General Assembly is an essential moment to reflect together on the future of screen sectors and the role and impact of public funding in bringing European voices to European and international audiences. Cooperation is core to filmmaking in Europe, and as public institutions, it is extremely valuable for EFAD members to have a more in-depth understanding of Irish film sector and Screen Ireland’s vision. The European Film Agencies Directors association is very grateful to Screen Ireland for hosting our General Assembly and the elections of our new board.”
