Fís Éireann/Screen Ireland is delighted to join a new European pilot programme supporting high-quality TV series and international co-production.

The Council of Europe has introduced a Pilot Programme for Series Co-Productions, a new three-year Pilot Programme supporting high-quality series structured as international co-productions. The aim is to strengthen independent producers and cultivate new collaborations across Europe. Thirteen other European countries, through fourteen ministries and national agencies, have come together to financially back this new opportunity for series producers.

Désirée Finnegan, Chief Executive of Screen Ireland, said:

“Screen Ireland is delighted to join the Council of Europe’s Pilot Programme for Series Co-Production, an ambitious vision to support independent production across Europe and harness the potential of international collaboration. Ireland’s strong partnerships across Europe have already resulted in many powerful TV drama series. Supporting this fund is an excellent opportunity to recognise our shared values and the importance of enhancing cultural diversity across European TV drama.”

Screen Ireland will invest €900,000 in the Council of Europe Series Co-Production fund. The programme, implemented by Eurimages, aims to promote independent production, enhance geographical and cultural diversity in European series, and harness the potential of international collaboration.

The programme is formed into two supports: Council of Europe Series Co-Production Support, which offers final stage funding for series co-productions with a top-up grant of either €250,000 or €500,000; and a Series Co-Production Development Award valued at €50,000, which will be hosted by four different co-production markets around Europe in 2024.

Irish producers and production companies will be eligible to apply for the next call for projects, expected to be open in Spring 2024.

The Council of Europe Pilot Programme for Series Co-Productions is also supported by Flemish Minister of Media, Le Ministère de la Fédération Wallonie-Bruxelles, Croatian Audiovisual Centre, Ministry of Culture Estonia, Ministry of Culture of the Hellenic Republic, National Film Institute - Hungary, Luxembourg Film Fund, Netherlands Film Fund, Ministry of Culture of North Macedonia, Institute of Cinema and Audiovisual - Portugal, Ministry of Culture of Republic of Serbia, Ministry of Culture of Slovak Republic, Ministry of Culture of Republic of Slovenia and Instituto de la Cinematografía y de las Artes Audiovisuales (ICAA)- Spain.
