Broken Law is the debut feature film from Irish Director Paddy Slattery, and will be released in cinemas nationwide this Friday, 31 July.

The films main cast features an impressive array of Irish acting talent including Tristan Heanue (A Break in the Clouds, In This Place), Graham Earley (Comfortable Chaos, Monged), John Connors (Cardboard Gangsters, Love/Hate), Gemma-Leah Devereux (Judy, Citizen Lane), Ryan Lincoln, (Kissing Candice, Michael Inside), Ally Ní Charáin (Calm With Horses) and Gary Lydon (The Guard, War Horse)

Dave Connolly (Tristan Heanue) is a respected member of the Garda Síochána, but following a botched robbery, his loyalty to the law is tested by his ex-convict brother Joe (Graham Earley). Dave suddenly finds himself embroiled in a cover-up that somehow leads to a secret relationship with Amia (Gemma-Leah Devreux), an unhappily married woman who also happens to be the victim of his brother’s crime.

Broken Law, which was also written by Slattery, premiered at the Virgin Media Dublin International Film Festival in 2020, in which Slattery received the Discovery Award and Special Jury Prize. The film has since garnered positive attention from critics including Peter Bradshaw of The Guardian who praised the film as having "loads of energy and belligerent moxie", and which "rattles along with a certain propulsive power". RTÉ labeled the film as "gritty and engaging" and "a Cain & Abel motif for our times" featuring "fine performances all around."

Broken Law was shot on location in Dublin and produced by Paddy Slattery for True Line Films and Simon Doyle for Failsafe Films. The film was supported by Fís Éireann/Screen Ireland and Indiegogo.
