Irish documentary Tin Castle to receive World Premiere at Cannes Film Festival Critics Week

Posted: 14th April 2026

Fís Éireann/Screen Ireland is delighted to congratulate director Alexander Murphy and the creative team behind feature documentary Tin Castle, which will receive its World Premiere in Semaine de la Critique (Critics’ Week) at the Cannes Film Festival this May.

The documentary is directed by Alexander Murphy in his second feature documentary. Along a long-forgotten road, the O’Reillys live in a rundown trailer stranded in the middle of the fields. Pa’, Lisa, and their ten children weather the seasons in their tin castle, heirs to a way of life on borrowed time. Under threat of eviction, their tenuous balance falters, yet – steadfast in their tradition – they resist. The children laugh, the dogs bark, the trailer holds on – but for how long?

Tin Castle is an Irish-French co-production, produced by Cosme Bongrain of Goodseed Productions and by David Collins and Eamon Hughes of Irish production company Samson Films. The film will be distributed in France by Dulac Distribution and Ireland by Breakout Pictures. The film is supported by Screen Ireland.

La Semaine de la Critique (Critics' Week) is the oldest parallel, non-official sidebar of the Cannes Film Festival, founded in 1962 by the French Syndicate of Cinema Critics. It regularly focuses on directorial debuts and first or second feature films, and has launched the career of world-renowned directors Ken Loach, Guillermo del Toro and Wong Kar Wai.

The Cannes Film Festival takes place from 13th May to 24th May 2026.
