Cathy Brady’s Wildfire in Official Selection for the 45th Toronto International Film Festival

Posted: 30th July 2020

Fís Éireann/Screen Ireland is delighted to congratulate Cathy Brady and the creative team behind Wildfire on its Official Selection to the 45th Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). Due to a reimagined digital and physical festival tailored to fit the current moment, the programme comprises a more compact line-up of 50 feature films, making this year’s selection process highly competitive.

Cathy Brady’s Wildfire will receive its World Premiere in September, as part of the festival’s hybrid online and physical programme. The emotionally stirring feature debut for the writer/director will screen in the Discovery strand, a strand that represents directors to watch and the future of world cinema.

Commenting on the selection, Cathy Brady said: “I’m deeply honoured and proud to have Wildfire premiere at TIFF. This film is very close to our hearts and all the more poignant as Nika our incredible co-lead actress lost her brief but brave battle with cancer during post-production. What a tribute it will be to finally share this film at TIFF. Thank you to all the cast, crew, producers and financiers for your support and dedication.”

Wildfire stars Nora Jane-Noone and Nika McGuigan as Lauren and Kelly, two sisters whose mother’s mysterious death has torn them apart. Kelly, keen to escape their insular town, drifted away and disappeared a year ago. When she finally returns, the intense bond between the sisters is reignited. United they unearth their mother’s past, but the truth has devastating consequences. Wildfire is produced by David Collins for Samson Films, Charles Steel for Cowboy Films and Carlo Cresta-Dina for Tempesta Film. Financiers for the film include the British Film Institute (BFI), Fís Éireann/Screen Ireland, Film4 and Northern Ireland Screen, in association with Great Point Media, Sulcata Productions and Wellcome.

The 45th Toronto International Film Festival will take place 10 – 20 September, 2020. The full screening schedule will be announced on the 25th of August.
