Irish Horror Film, A Dark Song, Released in Irish Cinemas This Friday, 7 April

Posted: 6th April 2017

Liam Gavin’s award-winning horror, A Dark Song will be released in Irish cinemas this Friday, 7 April. The film, which stars Catherine Walker (Leap Year, Patrick’s Day and Dark Touch) and Steve Oram (The World’s End, The Canal), recently picked up the Best Director and Best Actress accolades at the prestigious FantasPorto International Film Festival in Portugal.

Produced by David Collins and Cormac Fox for Samson Films, alongside Tim Dennison for Tall Man Films in Cardiff, A Dark Song has already screened at multiple international film festivals including the Galway Film Fleadh, the Sitges Film Festival in Spain and the BFI London Film Festival.

The horror film follows Sophia, a young woman overwhelmed with sadness following the untimely death of her young daughter. In a desperate attempt to achieve some form of closure, she reaches out to Solomon; an occultist with experience in an ancient invocation ritual that Sophia believes will allow her to make contact with her deceased child.

Locked away in a remote country house, Sophia and Solomon undergo a long and arduous ritual, risking both their mental and physical safety as they attempt to access a world beyond their understanding. However, when Solomon finds out that Sophia has not been truthful about her wish, a great danger threatens them. In the dark, they find that they are no longer alone in the house—they are now the world of real angels, and real demons.

Hailed by Quiet Earth as “a smart and savvy example of horror’s new breed”, A Dark Song sees two people engaging in rituals that blur the boundaries between this world and the next.

The film was funded by Bord Scannán na hÉireann/the Irish Film Board and Ffilm Cymru Wales.
