Irish Supernatural Comedy Extra Ordinary Set to Receive World Premiere at SXSW this Weekend

Irish supernatural comedy Extra Ordinary starring comedian/writer/actress Maeve Higgins (Naked Camera, Inside Amy Schumer), Barry Ward (Jimmy’s Hall, MAZE), Will Forte (Nebraska, Run & Jump), and Claudia O’Doherty (Trainwreck, Love, Inside Amy Schumer) will have its world premiere at the SXSW Film Festival in the US this weekend where it has been officially selected for Narrative Competition.
The debut feature from writer/directors Mike Ahern and Enda Loughman and starring a strong Irish supporting cast including Jamie Beamish (Derry Girls, Hanna), Risteard Cooper (Apres Match), Mary McEvoy (Glenroe), Alison Spittle (Nowhere Fast), Siobhan McSweeney (Derry Girls) and Terri Chambers, Extra Ordinary tells the story of Rose, a sweet and lonely small town driving instructor who must use her supernatural ‘talent’ to save the daughter of a local man from a washed up rock-star looking to use her in a satanic pact that will reignite his fame.
Speaking about the films World Premiere, writer/directors Mike Ahern and Enda Loughman said: “We couldn’t imagine a more fitting festival to show Extra Ordinary for its World Premiere. Just like in our film, the SXSW line-up will no doubt feature a few creepy rock stars, as well as some weird but lovable folk with supernatural powers. It’s the perfect fit. We are very excited and honoured!”
Producers Blinder Films added: “We’re thrilled to be having our World Premiere in SXSW which holds a special place in our hearts after the incredible experience we had there with Citadel. We’re extraordinarily proud of Mike and Enda’s debut feature and we hope that audiences there will fall in love with their unique characters and their hilarious madcap adventures just as much as we have.”
The SXSW Film Festival is part of an annual conglomerate of film, interactive media, and music festivals and conferences that take place in mid-March in Austin, Texas. The film festival celebrates raw innovation and emerging talent both behind and in front of the camera with past notable world premieres that include Blockers, Bad Neighbours, 21 Jump Street, and Bridesmaids. This year’s festival will be opened by Us, Jordan Peele’s follow up to Get Out.
Filmed last year in Kildare, Tullamore and Wicklow, Extra Ordinary is produced by Katie Holly (Citadel, Love & Friendship), Mary McCarthy (Mr Foley, Six Shooter), Yvonne Donohoe (Striking Out) and Ailish Bracken (The Queen of Ireland) for Blinder Films, in co-production with Umedia with funding from Screen Ireland, UMedia and Inevitable Pictures.
Wildcard Distribution will be releasing the film in Irish cinemas later this year.
