Irish Talent recognised at this year’s BAFTA TV Awards, including Screen Ireland supported series The Dry
Posted: 23rd March 2023
Fís Éireann/Screen Ireland is delighted to congratulate the Irish talent recognised as part of the BAFTA Television Craft Awards and BAFTA Television Awards nominations this year. The awards reward the very best in television craft and television programmes broadcast in the UK in 2022.
Nancy Harris, writer of the Screen Ireland supported The Dry, which started broadcasting on RTÉ One earlier this month, received a nomination in the Writer: Comedy category for her work on the Element Pictures produced series. The comedy follows Shiv Sheridan (Roisin Gallagher) as she returns to Dublin after years of partying in London, sober and full of good intentions - but being back with her family makes staying on ‘the dry’ much harder than she expected. As Shiv tries to navigate this new phase of her life, so must her family, and they all have issues they don’t want to face.
The Dry also stars Oscar nominee Ciarán Hinds, Pom Boyd, Siobhán Cullen, Moe Dunford and Adam Richardson. All episodes were written by Harris, with Paddy Breathnach directing. Emma Norton and Michael Dawson are Exec Producing for Element alongside company founders Ed Guiney, Andrew Lowe and writer Nancy Harris. The series aired on BritBox in the UK.
We are delighted to extend our sincere congratulations to the many projects supported by Irish talent recognised by the British Academy, including the Apple TV+ Bad Sisters which received multiple nominations amongst acting, directing, writing and craft categories, Channel 4's Derry Girls which was recognised for the high quality work of creator and writer Lisa McGee and actress Siobhán McSweeney. Irish talent across the acting categories included Fiona Shaw (Andor) and Cillian Murphy (Peaky Blinders). The Graham Norton Show was nominated in the Comedy Entertainment Programme category.
The BAFTA Television Craft Awards will take place on Sunday 23th April, followed shortly by the BAFTA Television Awards, which will be hosted by comedians Rob Beckett and Romesh Ranganathan and will be broadcast on BBC One and iPlayer on Sunday 14th May at 7pm.
