Katie Murphy to Represent Ireland at European Writers Club's Bridging Generations/Connecting Audiences Programme

At this year's Series Mania, the European Writers Club (EWC) unveiled the eight selected teams for the third pilot edition of Bridging Generations—an innovative programme spotlighting cross-generational collaboration in scripted television. Standing out among the international talents is Irish writer Katie Murphy, who will represent Ireland with her sharp and spirited project, Revenge Friends.
As the media landscape continues to evolve, connecting with audiences across platforms is more complex—and more essential—than ever. Bridging Generations meets this challenge by pairing young talents with seasoned writers to develop stories that resonate across age groups and mediums.
Katie Murphy’s project, Revenge Friends, with Henner Schulte-Holtey (Germany), tells the story of 60-year-old Patricia who, after a painful divorce, turns a support group into a wine-fuelled club for revenge. The series explores themes of female empowerment, second chances, and the power of solidarity among women—delivered with wit and edge. This distinctive Irish voice adds a fresh and compelling angle to the programme’s lineup.

In these fragmented and challenging times, the need for stories built on shared beliefs, dreams, and values has become more important than ever. Bridging Generations empowers creators like Katie to collaborate, innovate, and reach audiences in meaningful ways.
The eight selected multi-generational teams from across Europe will participate in three immersive camps led by Le Groupe Ouest and Leading Creative Talent. Backed by research from Will & Agency and guided by cognitive science and world-building methodologies, participants will develop their series for multi-format storytelling—exploring potential expansion into games, podcasts, social media content, and more.
The journey culminates in a two-day showcase at Torino, Italy, where teams will present their projects to producers, broadcasters, and industry professionals.

I'm delighted to be selected for this year’s European Writers Club with our project Revenge Friends, alongside my German teammate Henner Schulte-Holtey. This is a rare opportunity to co-create a TV show with a writer like Henner, in a cross generational and cross borders capacity. As Writers we tend to work mostly in isolation, what appealed to us about this scheme is that we will be developing our series alongside top EU broadcasters and experts. Revenge Friends is a dark comedy with bold and fresh perspectives which we are very excited to explore with the EWC, Le Groupe Ouest and the other participants. With her sharp storytelling and unique perspective, Katie Murphy not only represents Ireland but also highlights the creative force emerging from the Irish screenwriting scene.

Meanwhile, the EWC is deepening its presence in Ireland.This May, Dublin will host two special sessions, including the 360° Narrative Design and Transmedia Strategy Workshop taking place from 7-9 May 2025, which is now open for applications.
A wider masterclass featuring guest speakers Kurt McClung (Writer, Narrative Designer, World Designer, Transmedia Consultant) and Marie-Sophie Gandy (Writer, World Designer and Creative Producer) taking place on Wednesday, 7th May 2025 will explore how to expand your story across multiple formats while preserving its unique voice.
