Launch of Next Intake of BA (Hons) in Screen Industry Practice (Level 8) RPL Programme at TU Dublin

Posted: 11th June 2026

In February 2025, after three years of development and consultation with colleagues in the screen industries in Ireland, supported by the TU Dublin Enterprise Academy, the School of Media at TU Dublin and Fís Éireann/Screen Ireland welcomed the first cohort of learners to a new Level 8 programme, the BA (Hons) in Screen Industry Practice. These students are about to complete their degree with an end of year showcase taking place on Thursday, 18th June 2026. The second cohort started in November 2025 and have begun the research for their major projects, which will be submitted at the end of 2026.

Potential applicants are encouraged to avail of the Certificate in Portfolio Preparation for the Screen Industry (Level 6). This will run in late June 2026, in person and/or online. Registration for the for the Certificate in Portfolio Preparation for the Screen Industry is now open. Apply here.

Both programmes are co-funded by Screen Ireland and by Cultural & Creative Industries Skillnet via the European Social Fund (the Government of Ireland, the European Union, and network companies).

Testimonials

Since starting the BA(Hons) in Screen Industry Practice, it has given me the opportunity to step outside myself to reflect on my long experience in the media industry. Also surprisingly it has become a kind of pivot point, where I have met some great like-minded colleagues, and as a collective we have learned to understand what academia is.

Screen Industry Practice has helped me see my work and career with a new light. Being taken out of your day to day work routine and given the space, time and helpful nudge to reflect adds value not only to the career you have already had but hopefully on the career path yet to come too.

I have thoroughly enjoyed the course so far.  It is demanding: I am forced to use a part of my brain that has been dormant for too many years.

This course offered by TU Dublin and Screen Ireland has been a unique opportunity for me to enter back into academic life whilst continuing in my professional career. I have found the modules extremely interesting and I have been able to take many aspects of my learning into my own professional role.

All are welcome to attend the Screen Industry Practice Showcase on Thursday, 18th June 2026 from 6.15pm in TU Dublin East Quad. Please register here as places are limited.

About the BA (Hons) in Screen Industry Practice

The BA (Hons) in Screen Industry Practice is an 18-month part-time programme, with a focus on critical reflection and self-directed learning. Aimed at experienced professionals who have been working in the screen industries for more than seven years, it is delivered in a flexible mode to allow participants to continue in full-time careers.

Potential learners gain entry to the programme via RPEL––recognition of prior experiential learning. This means that colleagues who have not had the opportunity to engage in formal study, but who can demonstrate, via a substantial portfolio, that they have achieved learning in the workplace, comparable to National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ) Level 7, can enter the equivalent of the final year of a four-year degree programme.

The school runs a Portfolio preparation module to assist in compiling a RPEL portfolio and personal statement.  Potential applicants to the BA in Screen Industry Practice are strongly encouraged to avail of this Level 6 Certificate in Portfolio Preparation for the Screen Industry, which will primarily consist of two full-day workshops, supported by online tutorials. This programme is currently open for registration in late August and will run from late June 2026. More sessions will be arranged depending on demand.

A webinar for those interested in applying will take place on Tuesday, 23rd, June at 6.30pm. Please register here.

If you are unable to attend but would like to receive more information, please register your interest here.
