Nothing Compares receives Special Honors and Audience Choice Prize Selection at the Cinema Eye Awards
Posted: 26th October 2022
Cinema Eye Honors, the organization that recognises outstanding artistic achievement in nonfiction and documentary films & series, has revealed this year’s Audience Choice Long List as well as the 2023 Unforgettables for their 16th Annual Honors. We are delighted to share that Nothing Compares, Kathryn Ferguson's portrait of Sinéad O'Connor through her rise to fame and her exile from the pop mainstream, was recognised in both categories.
Nothing Compares charts Sinéad OʼConnorʼs phenomenal rise to worldwide fame, and examines how she used her voice at the height of her stardom before her iconoclastic personality led to her exile from the pop mainstream. Focusing on Sinéad’s prophetic words and deeds from 1987 to 1993, the film presents an authored, richly cinematic portrait of this fearless trailblazer through a contemporary feminist lens. The film received its World Premiere at the 2022 Sundance Film Festival, and has still traveled across the world, including a limited theatrical release in the US, and a release on October 7th in Ireland and the UK. The film can currently be seen in Irish cinemas.
The Unforgettables list is the Cinema Eye Awards' selection of the year’s most notable and significant nonfiction film subjects. Sinéad O'Connor was recognised in this annual celebration of the unique collaboration between filmmakers and their subjects. A full list of the honored documentary subjects can be found here.
In addition, the Irish documentary was one of 16 films selected by the Cinema Eye Feature Film Nominations Committee for their “ability to engage, entertain, inspire, outrage, aggravate or otherwise connect with audiences.” This year, for the first time, the Cinema Eye Awards invited documentary from around the globe to help determine the ten nominees for our Audience Choice Prize. The full longlist, as well as the vote submission form, can be found here.
The deadline for voting is 1st November at 11.59PT. The Audience Choice Prize nominees, along with the rest of the Nonfiction Feature nominations, will be announced on Thursday, 10th November.
We are delighted to see the documentary recognised in this celebration of nonfiction work and congratulate the creative team which made its outstanding achievements possible.
