Promoting Careers in the Irish Creative Screen Industry at TY Talks

Posted: 5th May 2021

Fís Éireann/Screen Ireland is delighted to support TY Talks, a new virtual event for all Transition Year students in Ireland. Run by Ibec, in partnership with the National Association of Principals and Deputy Principals in Ireland, TY Talks provided an opportunity for students whose education has been disrupted by COVID-19 to gain important insights into the world of work.

Screen Ireland highlighted the broad range of job roles available in the screen sector and provided insight into some of the routes available into those roles. Interviews with animation director Damien O’Connor (Angela’s Christmas) and television director Hannah Quinn (Fate: The Winx Saga) were made available to students, to give an insight into the benefits of a career in the creative screen industries and to demonstrate how to sector is open to everyone.

The event featured a panel with Nora Twomey, Partner & Creative Director of award-winning animation studio Cartoon Saloon (Wolfwalkers, The Breadwinner). Nora discussed her route into the animation industry, the wide variety of opportunities available in animation, and the importance of teamwork and trust in a creative industry.

The event also provided access to the Careers in Screen portal, a dedicated space covering the key departments in the screen sector and information about the roles in each department. This resource has been designed to help guide anyone thinking about a career in the screen sector.

TY Talks host 45,000 Transition Year students from 550 schools nationwide, provided a great platform from which to demonstrate how accessible and rewarding a career in the screen industry can be to the next generation of writers, directors, set designers, make-up artists, and more.
