Róise & Frank continues successful festival run in Rhode Island

Posted: 25th July 2022

Fís Éireann/Screen Ireland is delighted to congratulate Rachael Moriarty, Peter Murphy, Cúán Mac Conghail and the creative team behind Irish festival hit Róise & Frank on their selection for the 2022 edition of the Flickers’ Rhode Island International Film Festival.

The film was funded by Screen Ireland, TG4 and the BAI as part of the Cine4 scheme, and tells the story of Róise (Bríd Ní Neachtain), a recently widowed Irish woman struggling with the aftermath of her husband Frank’s passing. When a stray dog crosses her path, she starts to regain hope as everything leads her to believe that Frank might be watching over her in a different, canine form.

Róise & Frank premiered this year at the Virgin Dublin Film Festival where it won the Best Ensemble Award, and has since screened throughout Ireland and abroad at multiple prestigious festivals including the Stockholm Film Festival, Santa Barbara International Film Festival and this year’s Galway Film Fleadh.

This year marks the 25th anniversary of the Flickers’ Rhode Island International Film Festival, which has throughout its history presented over a thousand World/North American premieres and welcomed 467,000 visitors. Following from the new demands brought on by COVID-19, the festival is now a hybrid event with a mixture of online, in person and outdoor screenings. It is the largest film Festival in New England and an official qualifying event for the Academy Awards and BAFTA Awards. The festival will also present its own range of awards to recognise excellence amongst its screenings.

Past Irish films that have screened at the festival include The Queen v Patrick O’Donnell, In View and Gridlock.

The festival is happening from August 8th to 14th, while Irish audiences will be able to watch Róise & Frank in cinemas on September 16th.
