Screen Ireland are seeking applicants for the AFCI: Film Commission Fundamentals

Fís Éireann/Screen Ireland in collaboration with Association of Film Commissioners International (AFCI) are seeking applicants for the  AFCI: Film Commission Fundamentals training course.

Course Profile

Film Commission Fundamentals (FCF) is an online course providing valuable information and training to individuals involved with film commissions in any capacity. This course is an introduction and orientation to film commission work and is required of anyone who plans to take advanced AFCI courses. Government officials, local film liaisons, film commissions and others associated with on-location filming are encouraged to take our community course, Film Liaison. The course will take approximately eight hours to complete, and you will have 30 days from the time of registration fee payment to complete the course. Each chapter of the course is followed by a short quiz which you must answer correctly before you can proceed to the next chapter. When you have completed all the chapters, you will be awarded a certificate of completion for the course and will be eligible to take Film Commission Professional if you would like additional training or your office is seeking Full Membership with the AFCI.

  • Marketing your jurisdiction
  • An overview of economic development
  • Film incentives programs
  • Scouting
  • Location photography
  • Working with production and clients and within the local jurisdiction.

Graduates of the course will gain an understanding of the skills required of every film commission staff member, and the way in which film commissions can successfully interact with the production community and their jurisdictions.

Only Film Commission Fundamentals graduates can be considered to move onto further training with AFCI.

FOUNDED IN 1975, Association of Film Commissioners International (AFCI) is the only global non-profit professional organization representing city, state, regional, provincial, and national film commission members on six continents.

An Affiliate Membership program enables production companies and businesses servicing the production community to also be a part of the organization. www.afci.org  

Eligibility Criteria

This course is aimed at individuals in a Film Commission or Arts office within a county council who wish to learn more about industry standards in relation to running a film office improve productivity and engagement in their teams.

This course is suitable for Film Commissioners, Arts Officers, and tourism offices. The course will be administrated online and is free for successful candidates.

HOW TO APPLY

If you believe you meet the criteria, please email inwardproduction@screenireland.ie by Monday 23rd November 2020 with your expression of interest. Emails received after this deadline will not be considered

This course is not available to individuals who are not associated with a county council or film office.

Please include “AFCI Course” in the subject line, along with the following information in the body of the email:

  1. Company or organisation name.
  2. The name of the participants from you company or organisation and their job title.
  3. The application company or organisation should set out its rationale for participating in the trade mission and a detailed explanation of why participation in the delegation will be a benefit to your company, addressing in detail each eligibility criteria above.

Ensure you supply details of any official co-productions that you have structured in the past. Limited places available and will be assigned to one person per organisation.
