Screen Ireland Congratulates the Winners of the 2023 RTS Ireland Television Awards

Posted: 29th March 2023

Fís Éireann/Screen Ireland is delighted to congratulate the winners of this year's 2023 RTS Ireland Television Awards. The ceremony took place yesterday evening at The Galmont Hotel, Galway, and was hosted by presenters Caitlín Nic Aoidh and Cormac Ó hEadhra. We were proud to support this year's ceremony and to see two Screen Ireland supported projects win in their respective categories: The Ghastly Ghoul (Dream Logic & Lupus Films) and Redemption (Metropolitan Films, Tall Story Pictures).

Directed by Kealan O'Rourke, Maurizio Parimbelli and Corinne Ladeinde, The Ghastly Ghoul is the story of Gary, a cute little monster that doesn’t believe he’s scary enough, and so disguises himself as The Ghastly Ghoul. When he misses the gateway back home, he is trapped in the human world. He forms a friendship with a young girl, Beatrix, who is struggling with her own insecurities and together they help inspire a sense of self belief in one another and try to find a way to get Gary home again in a Halloween night filled with magic and adventure.

The animated special aired on Sky UK, Kika and RTÉ to celebrate Halloween in 2022. The Ghastly Ghoul is written by Emma Hogan and produced by Brian Willis and Stephen Smith. It was developed with the support of Fís Éireann/Screen Ireland and the Creative Europe programme - MEDIA of the European Union. We are delighted to see it win the RTS Ireland Award for Best Animation.

Created by Sean Cook and executive produced by Tall Story Pictures’ Creative Director Catherine Oldfield and Executive Producer Patrick Schweitzer, Redemption introduces plain speaking, no nonsense DI Colette Cunningham, whose fearless approach to policing has earned her the respect of her Merseyside Police Serious Crime Squad colleagues.

The six part series was produced by Tall Story Pictures and Metropolitan Films. A co-commission between Virgin Media Television and ITV, the series premiered on Virgin Media One in Ireland last April. Our sincere congratulations to the team behind the series on their win in the Best Drama category last night.
