Screen Ireland Participating at MIPCOM Online+ with over 30 Irish Television and Animation Companies

Posted: 12th October 2020

Screen Ireland, the national agency for the TV, film and animation sector, will be participating at MIPCOM Online+ this year, along with over 30 Irish TV and animation delegate companies and Enterprise Ireland, who manage the Ireland on Screen stand at the online market.

Over the last number of years, Screen Ireland has demonstrated its significant commitment to TV drama and animation, with increased investment in 2020 and the appointment of Andrew Byrne as TV Project Manager within the Production & Development team. Byrne was previously Head of Commissioning for national broadcaster Virgin Media Television. Screen Ireland has also recently announced State stimulus packages to include €900,000 in support of five international TV drama series.

The Emmy nominated global hit Normal People, produced by Element Pictures for BBC3 and Hulu, showcased Irish talent on the world stage earlier this year. A new series Smother is currently in production for BBC Studios and is produced by Treasure. Both series were supported by Screen Ireland.

Recent successful Irish animation projects include Ink and Light's Ollie, Pink Kong's Urban Tails and Turnip and Duck's Critters TV, all airing in the past year on Irish national broadcaster's children's service, RTÉjr, and sold to multiple territories worldwide, as well as longstanding pre-school series successes like Puffin Rock, Angela's ChristmasThe Day Henry MetBecca’s Bunch and Little Roy.

As well as Ireland’s Section 481, a 32% tax credit for television, animation and film production, a 5% regional uplift (subject to EU approval) is also available, meaning the credit is now worth 37% in regional areas of Ireland. Funding is capped at €70 million per project and available on all goods and services sourced in Ireland. International cast and crew working in Ireland qualify.  Screen Skills Ireland, the screen skills development within Screen Ireland, ensures optimum levels of skills development and skills enhancement are taking place.

Andrew Byrne, Project Manager for TV Drama and Animation and Steven Davenport, Inward Production Manager will be participating in the market from Screen Ireland. For further information, you can email markets@screenireland.ie.
