Screen Ireland Pays Tribute to Sue Bruce-Smith

Posted: 3rd May 2020

The Board and Executive at Fis Eireann/Screen Ireland would like to pay tribute to Sue Bruce-Smith who sadly passed away this weekend. Sue was a passionate advocate of independent cinema throughout her distinguished career and many Irish filmmakers benefited from her generous advice and support. She championed a wide variety of Irish films during her many roles at Film 4 including, Room, The Lobster, The Favourite, Isolation, The Little Stranger and Frank amongst others.  She also served on the Dublin International Film Festival Board for over a decade.

Sue spent two decades of her career at Film4. She first joined the organisation in 1997, after roles at the BFI’s production division, BBC Worldwide and Palace Pictures. In 2001 she relocated with her family to Dublin, and joined independent producer Little Bird. She returned to Film4 in 2004 and where she remained, most recently in the role of Deputy Director.

Her passing is a huge loss to the Irish and UK film industry and independent filmmakers. Our thoughts are with her family and friends at this time.
