The event will launch Screen Ireland’s A Place in Our Story – a series of events for the Irish public marking 30 years of a national agency for Irish film and filmmaking, and paying tribute to the essential place film has in our story, across culture and community.
Desirée Finnegan, Chief Executive of Fís Éireann/Screen Ireland, said:
“Screen Ireland is thrilled to host this special screening of Sing Street for Culture Night 2023. As we know from the recent success of National Cinema Day, and the phenomenal year it has been for Irish film – without Irish audiences and their support, participation and pride, Irish film would not have the place it holds today in our cultural story. These screenings are a way to recognise 30 years of this incredible support for Irish stories on screen.”

About the Film
Sing Street takes us back to 1980s Dublin where the recession forces 14-year-old Cosmo out of his comfortable private school and into survival mode at the inner-city public school. He turns to music and forms a ragtag band, shooting scrappy music videos, and finding refuge and love with the beautiful 16-year-old Raphina.
Sing Street had its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival on 24 January 2016. Starring Ferdia Walsh-Peelo, Lucy Boynton, Maria Doyle Kennedy, Aidan Gillen and Jack Reynor, the film was nominated for Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy at the 74th Golden Globe Awards.
