Screen Ireland’s February 2026 Information Clinic: Frequently Asked Questions

Posted: 11th March 2026

In February, Screen Ireland held an online information clinic, focused on Production and Development funding, and outlined new updates to Screen Ireland's application procedures.

Please find below a compilation of the most frequently asked questions at the clinic. Questions with similar themes were combined.

The 2026 funding application deadlines for development and production are located on the Screen Ireland Funding page, listed under each individual funding strand page. They are also located on the overall Production Funding Guidelines and Development Funding Guidelines pages.

Update to Additional Funding and Quantification Requests

Additional Funding applications and Quantification Requests should now be submitted according to Screen Ireland’s regular funding round deadlines. This change is being made on a pilot basis and will be reviewed by Screen Ireland periodically.

The funding strands affected are:

  • Additional Feature Film Development Funding (to be submitted via the Applications Portal)
  • Additional Documentary Development Funding (to be submitted via the Applications Portal)
  • Additional Production Funding Requests (to be submitted via email after conversation with your Project Manager *
  • Quantification Requests (to be submitted via email after conversation with your Project Manager *)

As we understand that these funding requests are usually time-sensitive, it will be possible to apply for these 4 lanes of funding at any of the deadline dates specified on the website – even if the round is specified for Production or Development.

For avoidance of doubt: applications for the 4 lanes specified above can be submitted before the following deadlines, and will be reviewed as part of that assessment round:

  • March 2026 Development Round: Open for applications now. Deadline 23rd Mar 2026 at 1pm.
  • March 2026 Production & Distribution Round: Open for applications now. Deadline 30th Mar 2026 at 1pm.
  • May 2026 Development Round: Open for applications in late April. Deadline 25th May 2026 at 1pm.
  • June 2026 Production & Distribution Round: Open for applications mid-June. Deadline 13th Jul 2026 at 1pm.
  • September 2026 Development Round: Open for applications August. Deadline 7th Sep 2026 at 1pm.
  • September 2026 Production & Distribution Round: Open for applications late September. Deadline 26th Oct 2026 at 1pm.

Screen Ireland will be unable to accept applications outside of these specified rounds. We recommend that applicants take note of the relevant deadlines on the Screen Ireland website to avoid disappointment.

All other funding applications for Production and Development will be subject to the usual deadlines as outlined on the website.
Both Irish and English language projects are welcome to apply at these times.

* Please note that Additional Production Funding and Quantification Request applications will be moving to the Screen Ireland Application Portal, in time for the June 2026 Production Round.

Due to the significant increase in applications, we are piloting some new approaches in 2026 which will be reviewed again in 2027.  Keeping a smooth process for applications is a high priority, and so we have hired a panel of independent experienced reviewers to work in tandem with our internal team. These external reviewers may be called on to help evaluate projects on as needs basis. These reviewers are contracted with Screen Ireland and have signed non-disclosure agreements. We will publish a list of their names in our annual report.

Aside from the reviewers being external, the process will remain the same as before.

More information on our assessment process can be found on our Principles and Criteria page.

Screen Ireland will provide individual feedback to applicants on why the decision was made to award or pass on the project, based on our guiding principles. You will be notified via your profile on Screen Ireland’s Applications portal when this update is available. Please note that this will be the only feedback Screen Ireland can provide on your application. We ask that you do not contact individual team members to request additional feedback.

The Screen Ireland Applications Portal (sometimes referred to as ASTARS) is our hub for applications and decisions, and we are continuously working to expand and improve this system. After projects have been assessed, applicants will get a notification via the portal when a decision or update is available.

This change will be launched in the coming months, so please keep an eye on the Screen Ireland website for more details. You can sign up to our email newsletter for updates.

Please make sure the email address no-reply@screenireland.ie is added to your contacts to ensure these notifications don’t go into spam folders.

Feedback from older applications will be sent out via email until the new process is up and running.

One company can have multiple accounts in the Applications Portal: for example, producers, writers, & directors can have individual accounts under one company. However, an application in the Applications Portal can only be linked to one email address.

Applicants could use a company’s shared mailbox to make the process more accessible to individuals within their organisation. If you would like to have your details updated in the Applications Portal, please contact technicalsupport@screenireland.ie.

Pre-meets will be 30-minute meetings with a member of the P&D team. Their purpose is to demonstrate to the Screen Ireland team that a project is ready to be submitted for Production funding. We are developing the process for these meetings, and will be sending out more details via the Screen Ireland website and our email newsletter.
