Fís Éireann/Screen Ireland is delighted to congratulate Sinéad O'Shea and the creative team behind Irish documentary Blue Road - The Edna O'Brien Story, which has been selected to make its World Premiere at the 49th Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) in the festival's TIFF Docs 2024 programme.

Blue Road - The Edna O'Brien Story is a portrait of one of the world’s greatest and most charismatic writers, Irish author Edna O’Brien who died last week aged 93. She shared her personal journals with writer and director Sinéad O'Shea, read aloud in the film by Oscar nominated actress Jessie Buckley.

Written and directed by Sinéad O'Shea, the film is a Sky Original, proudly supported by Fís Éireann/Screen Ireland. It is an SOS Production in co-production with Tara Films, produced by Claire McCabe, Sinéad O'Shea and Eleanor Emptage. Executive producers are Barbara Broccoli and Katie Holly, Niamh Fagan for Screen Ireland, Jack Oliver for Sky Arts and Kathryn Ferguson for Tara Films.

Blue Road - The Edna O'Brien Story joins three previously announced Screen Ireland supported films in the 2024 TIFF line-up: Bring Them DownThe End and Sharp Corner, which will screen as part of the festival's Special Presentations strand.
