Break Out Pictures have announced today that Ken Wardrop’s latest documentary So This Is Christmas will be released across Irish cinemas from 17th November. The World Premiere of the film will be held at the 68th Cork International Film Festival on November 10th. The film is proudly supported by Screen Ireland.
Break Out have also released new key art and the first trailer for the film, which can be watched below.
It’s late November and across the country expectations of the impending festive season are growing. Christmas trees are being bought, festive music turned up and presents scrambled for. It’s all getting very bright and loud, excessive and expensive. So This Is Christmas takes us on an emotional journey with five ordinary characters as they navigate personal dilemmas triggered by this overwhelming time of year. Amid their everyday lives and struggles, we discover stories of extraordinary resilience and humble bravery.
The story is brought to life in a creative documentary form, where characters’ lives interweave with a colourful tapestry of Christmas scenes. Beyond the façade of tinsel and celebration, the film explores the deeper complexities that emerge when expectations collide with reality. What transpires is an important social commentary, filled with humour yet tinged with tragedy that will leave audiences questioning the true meaning of Christmas.
Speaking on the upcoming release, Ken Wardrop commented:
I'm immensely proud and grateful to have made this film. It has been a profoundly special journey thanks to the incredible individuals who shared their stories. Their courage and resilience have been truly inspiring. I hope the film will resonate with Irish audiences and anyone grappling with the complex emotions of Christmas, reminding us all of what the festive season is really meant to be about.”
So This Is Christmas is produced by Andrew Freeman and Samantha Coor for Venom Films with backing from Fís Éireann/Screen Ireland, RTÉ, Coimisiún na Meán, Creative Europe MEDIA and Autlook Filmsales.
