TG4 ar thóir ‘Malcolm’ nó ‘Aifric’ nua

Scéim Forbartha TG4 ar Shraith Drámaíochta do Dhaoine Óga Fógartha

TG4 ar thóir sraith Drámaíochta úrnua do Dhaoine Óga agus iad ag lorg suim ó léiritheoirí neamhspleácha chun a leithéid a chur ar fáil dóibh. Teastaíonn sraith ó TG4 a bheadh mealltach don óige, mar a bhí ‘Aifric’, ‘The Middle’ & ‘Malcolm in the Middle’ roimhe seo.

Chuige sin, tá scéim bunaithe ag TG4, an ciste WRAP, Údarás Craolacháin na hÉireann (BAI) agus Fís Éireann, chun forbairt a dhéanamh ar shraith drámaíochta sé go hocht gclár leath uair an chloig, i nGaeilge do Dhaoine Óga. Beidh sé dírithe ar dhaoine ó ocht mbliana d’aois suas agus é tarraingteach do lucht féachana teaghlaigh.

Beidh buiséad de suas le €1.2 milliún ag an tionscnamh a léireofar agus a chraolfar ar TG4. Cliar óg go príomha a bheidh le feiceáil sa tsraith, ach beidh carachtair fásta, tarraingteach á fhorbairt freisin chun lucht féachana leathan teaghlaigh a mhealladh.

Roghnóidh painéal de mheasúnóirí ó TG4, Ciste Wrap, BAI & Fís Éireann trí thionscnamh le forbairt ar dtús.  Tabharfar maoiniú do na comhlachtaí a roghnaítear chun na tionscnaimh a fhorbairt agus cuirfear buiséad suas le €25,000 ar fáil do gach tionscnamh.

Ag deireadh na tréimhse forbartha, roghnófar ceann do na tionscnaimh agus cuirfear iarratas ar thacaíocht dó sin chun cinn chuig an chéad bhabhta cuí eile den chiste Fís agus Fuaim de chuid an BAI.

Deir Bainisteoir Coimisiúnaithe TG4, Mary Ellen Ní Chualáin, “Tá géarghá le drámaíocht do dhaoine óga agus tá bís orainn i TG4 go dtiocfaidh sraith shiamsúil, cliar láidir agus cláir den chéad scoth as an scéim nua seo. Tá muid go mór faoi chomaoin ag na maoinitheoirí eile atá ag tacú leis an bplean”.

Ag labhairt dó inniu faoin bhfógra, deir Michael O’Keeffe, Príomhfheidhmeannach Údarás Craolacháin na hÉireann, Tionscadal iontach atá anseo chun borradh a chur faoi léiriúcháin nua do Dhaoine Óga. Tá sceitimíní ar Údarás Craolacháin na hÉireann a bheith mar chuid den chomhpháirtíocht seo chun cláir nua i nGaeilge, ar ardchaighdeán, a fhorbairt, mar chuid den tiomantas atá againn ábhar ilghnéitheach, oiriúnach d’ár gcultúr a sholáthar do lucht féachana na hÉireann. Tá muid ag tnúth go mór leis an iarratas deiridh a chuirfear os ár gcomhair don scéim Fís & Fuaim”.

Dar le James Hickey, Príomhfheidhmeannach, Fís Éireann, Tá sé iontach tábhachtach a chinntiú go mbeidh seans ag páistí drámaíocht i nGaeilge, atá déanta go speisialta dóibh, a fheiceáil agus cuidíonn sin leo dul i ngleic leis an teanga ar bhealach a léiríonn a gcuid scéalta féin agus an ghlúin dar díobh iad, ar an scáileán. Tá ríméad orainn a bheith ag tacú leis an scéim lenar gcomhpháirtithe, rud a chuideoidh chun gníomhaíocht léiriúcháin a spreagadh in Iarthar na hÉireann”.

Deir Sarah Dillon, Bainisteoir Forbartha WRAP, “Tá áthas ar WRAP ardán a thabhairt do dhaoine cumasacha áitiúla lena scéalta as Gaeilge a insint do dhaoine óga.

Is é an sprioc-am d’iarratais ná Dé hAoine, 16ú Lúnasa, 2019 ag 3pm.  Fógrófar na cinntí faoin 2ú Meán Fómhair, 2019.

TG4 looking for new ‘Malcolm’ or ‘Aifric’

Development Scheme for Young Peoples’ Drama Series Announced

TG4 are on the lookout for a brand new Young Peoples’ Drama Series and they are calling on independent production companies to apply to develop and produce such a series for them.  The scheme, which is funded by TG4 the BAI, Screen Ireland and the WRAP Fund is aimed at suppoering compelling drama which would appeal to younger viewers, in the way that ‘Aifric’, ‘The Middle’ & ‘Malcolm in the Middle’ have done previously.

A scheme has been set up by TG4 in collaboration with the WRAP fund, BAI and Screen Ireland, to develop a drama series of between six and eight half hour episodes, in Irish, for Young People. The target audience is from eight years and upwards and it will also have family appeal.

A budget of up to €1.2 million will be made available to the project, which will be produced for and broadcast on TG4. The cast will consist predominantly of young people, complemented by older, engaging characters,  to appeal to a broad family demographic.

A panel of adjudicators from TG4, the Wrap fund, BAI & Screen Ireland will first choose three projects for development. The successful  companies will be given funding to develop their ideas and a budget of up to €25,000 will be made available to each project for this.

At the end of the development phase, one project will be chosen and an application for financial support will be made for that to the next appropriate round of the BAI Sound & Vision funding strand.

TG4 Commissioning Manager, Mary Ellen Ní Chualáin, says: “We really do need more drama for Young People and we in TG4 are very excited that an entertaining series, with a strong cast and top quality episodes will emerge from this scheme. We are extremely grateful to our funding partners who are so supportive of this new endeavour”.

Commenting, BAI chief executive, Michael O’Keeffe said: “This is a great initiative to stimulate new Irish language programming for young people. The BAI is excited to be involved in this partnership to develop quality programming in Irish as part of our commitment to promote diverse, culturally relevant content for Irish audiences. We look forward to seeing the final proposal that is submitted to the BAI’s Sound and Vision Scheme.”

James Hickey, Chief Executive, Fís Éireann/Screen Ireland said, “Ensuring children have access to Irish language drama made specifically for them is hugely important and allows young people to engage with the Irish language in a way that reflects their stories and their generation on screen. We are delighted to support this new scheme with our partners, which will also encourage production activity, creating employment across the West of Ireland.”

WRAP Development Manager Sarah Dillon adds, WRAP is delighted to give talented, local people a platform on which to tell their stories to Young People, in Irish. This is also a great example of a unique collaboration between TG4, WRAP, Screen Ireland and the BAI. WRAP is focussed on driving the growth and development of the screen industry in the West, through strategic, targeted, supports with help from our stakeholder partners, the Western Development Commission, Galway Film Centre, all seven local authorities and Údarás na Gaeltachta”.

The deadline for applications is Friday, 16th August, 2019, at 3pm. Decisions will be announced by September 2nd.
