The Bright Side Comes to Cinemas Across the Country Today
Posted: 20th August 2021
Ruth Meehan's The Bright Side is in Irish cinemas from today, August 20th.
The film stars Gemma Leah Devereux in the main role of Kate McLaughlin. Gemma is joined on screen by Tom Vaughan Lawlor, Siobhan Cullen, Derbhle Crotty, Barbara Brennan, Karen Egan, and Kevin McGahern.
Kate McLaughlin is a world weary, stand up comedienne. Kate is suicidal – she wants out. Her morbid prayers are answered in the form of a cancer diagnosis. For Kate, this is the perfect excuse. But a last supper of dodgy shellfish and champagne puts paid to her overdose attempt and, to placate her family, she begrudgingly agrees to undergo chemotherapy.
Armed with staggering levels of cynicism and a plethora of blackly comic jokes, Kate gets off to a bad start with the four other women she encounters in the chemo ward; women, whose unsolicited friendships are destined to blow open her shut down heart.
