Screen Ireland Congratulates Element Pictures as The Favourite Wins Seven BAFTAs

Fís Éireann/Screen Ireland congratulates Element Pictures on their success at last night’s BAFTAs, where Lorgos Lanthimos’ The Favourite took home an incredible seven awards including Best Actress, Best Supporting Actress, Best British Film, Best Costume Design, Best Original Screenplay, Best Make-Up & Hair and Best Production Design.

Congratulating Element Pictures, Screen Ireland Chief Executive said: “The success of The Favourite this awards season has been a remarkable feat and I would like to congratulate Ed, Andrew, Yorgos, and all the team at Element following last night’s BAFTA wins. 

"We are delighted to have supported The Favourite at an early stage in the development process when the film received development funding from Screen Ireland (formerly Irish Film Board) as part of its Company Development funding scheme in which Element Pictures participated."

“These awards are a fitting tribute to the hardworking team behind the film and we wish Element every success ahead of the Academy Awards where The Favourite has received a phenomenal ten nominations.”​

The film was shot by Irish cinematographer Robbie Ryan and was partly post produced in Dublin.​

The Favourite stars Olivia Colman and Academy Award winners Rachel Weisz and Emma Stone and marks the third collaboration between Element Pictures and director Yorgos Lanthimos following award-winning films The Lobster and The Killing of a Sacred Deer.

It is currently playing in Irish cinemas, released through Fox Searchlight.
