Posted: 8th November 2022

Fís Éireann/Screen Ireland and Samson Films are delighted to report that some of their recent productions have enjoyed great success on the international festival circuit ahead of their planned Irish releases.

My Sailor, My Love, the English language debut of award-winning Finnish director, Klaus Härö, depicts how a retired sea captain (James Cosmo) and his daughter (Catherine Walker) must reassess their strained relationship after he begins a new romance with a widowed housekeeper (Bríd Brennan). Shot in Achill Island, this co-production with Finland’s Making Movies had its world premiere at the prestigious 2022 Toronto International Film Festival in September and has since launched at the top of the Finnish box office upon its theatrical release. We are thrilled to share that it picked up the Audience Award for Best International Feature at the 58th Chicago International Film Festival in October and offer our warm congratulations to Klaus and his team for the film’s success.

Directed by Adrian Sibley, The Ghost of Richard Harris is a feature documentary which recalls the life of the legendary actor, poet, and singer, Richard Harris. We are delighted to report that the film received the Audience Award for Best Documentary Feature at the Newport Beach Film Festival in October. Produced alongside Bright Yellow Films and Groove International, the film had its world premiere at the 79th Venice International Film Festival in September, forming part of the prestigious Venice Classics strand, and will celebrate its Irish premiere at the Cork International Film Festival on November 13th. The film will also screen at the Fort Lauderdale International Film Festival on November 6th and is currently enjoying a boutique theatrical run in the UK before its transmission on Sky Arts on November 19th. Many congratulations to Adrian and all involved in the documentary.

We are delighted to support both films and look forward to bringing them to more audiences around the world.
