Three Irish Horror Films Now Available On Netflix

Posted: 10th August 2017

Three IFB-supported horror films, from Ireland’s Fantastic Films are now available on Netflix. Corin Hardy’s The Hallow (2015), Brian O’Malley’s Let Us Prey (2014) and David Keating’s Wake Wood (2011) are the latest Irish titles to be added to the on-demand streaming platform.

Based in Dublin, Fantastic Films is Europe’s leading production company dedicated to genre and niche filmmaking. Following the release of Nails earlier this year, directed by Dennis Bartok and starring Shauna Macdonald (The Descent) and Ross Noble (Stitches), Fantastic’s forthcoming title will be the international co-production Muse, which shot in Dublin and is directed by Jaume Balaguero (Rec, Sleep Tight) and starring Christopher Lloyd, Franka Potente and Elliot Cowan.

Directed by Corin Hardy (The Nun), The Hallow tells the story of a family who move into a remote mill house in Ireland only to find themselves in a fight for survival with demonic creatures living in the woods. Produced by John McDonnell and Brendan McCarthy of Fantastic Films alongside Felipe Marino and Joe Neurauter, The Hallow, which stars Joseph Mawle and Bojana Novakovic, previously screened at the 2015 Sundance Film Festival and Hardy received a Best Debut Director nomination at the British Independent Film Awards (BIFA) in the same year for his work on the title.

Let Us Prey is directed by Brian O’Malley (The Lodgers) and stars Liam Cunningham (Game of Thrones) and Pollyanna McIntosh (Love Eternal). The film stars Cunningham as an enigmatic stranger who’s detained overnight in a small town police station, where his dark influence takes over the minds of the inmates and officers around him, resulting in a night of blood-spilling and mayhem. Produced by Brendan McCarthy and John McDonnell of Fantastic Films and Eddie Dick of Makar Productions, Let Us Prey received its world premiere at the Brussels International Fantastic Film Festival.

Starring Timothy Spall, Aidan Gillen and Eva Birthistle, Wake Wood is directed by David Keating. The film follows the parents of a girl who was killed by a savage dog as they are granted the opportunity to spend three days with their deceased daughter. The film is produced by John McDonnell and Brendan McCarthy for Fantastic Films, alongside Magnus Paulsson’s of Hammer Films Productions.

Fantastic Films’ next films include Sea Fever, directed by Neasa Hardiman and Vivarium, directed by Lorcan Finnegan, with both titles also supported by the IFB.
