Tom Burke (Mank, The Souvenir) and Paul Mescal (Normal People) are set to star in Bring Them Down, the highly anticipated debut feature from award-winning writer/director and Screen Star of Tomorrow Christopher Andrews. The film is slated to start production in Ireland in Q3 2021.

Tom Burke is best known for his role as Cormoran Strike in The Strike Series for BBC. He was BIFA and Critics Circle nominated for his performance in Joanna Hogg's critically acclaimed feature The Souvenir.  He has most recently been seen as Orson Welles in David Fincher's Golden Globe-nominated feature Mank, and as Dazzle Jennings in Series 4 of The Crown on Netflix. Onstage, Tom's credits included the role of John Rosmer in Rosmersholm at The Duke of York Theatre, Freddie Page in The Deep Blue Sea at The National Theatre and Design For Living, alongside Andrew Scott at The Old Vic.

Paul Mescal played the lead role of Connell in the adaptation of the Sally Rooney novel Normal People, directed by Lenny Abrahamson. Paul was nominated at the 72nd Primetime Emmy Awards for Leading Actor in a Limited Series and recently nominated for a Critics’ Choice Award 2021. In 2020, Paul was named a Screen International Star of Tomorrow. Paul makes his feature film debut in Maggie Gyllenhaal’s directional debut The Lost Daughter and will star as the lead in Benjamin Millepied’s Carmen.

Bring Them Down is set in the wild landscape of the West of Ireland, and follows an Irish shepherd who is drawn into violent conflict with a neighbouring farm when his sheep are massacred by unknown men.

Rooted in character and place, with an epic sensibility, the film tells a story of damnation and redemption, asking if it is ever possible to end deep rooted cycles of violence.

Ivana MacKinnon (Beast) of Wild Swim Films and Ruth Treacy and Julianne Forde of Tailored Films (The Lodgers) will produce alongside Ilya Stewart and Jacob Swan Hyam, with funding from Screen Ireland, Charades and Hype Film.

Charades will be handling international sales and executive producing the film.

The producers are launching the film at EFM, and looking for additional partners.
