Festival de Cannes et Marché du Film

Festival de Cannes et Marché du Film

The Marche du Cannes is one of the largest film markets in the world, with more than 30,000 professionals accredited each year. The Irish film industry is represented at the Irish Pavilion, managed by the IFB.

Festival de Cannes

The hub for the Irish film industry at the Festival de Cannes can be found in the Irish Pavilion at the International Village in the Marche du Cannes.  Screen Ireland manages the Irish Pavilion which promotes Irish film and services the needs of the Irish producers attending the festival.

The Festival de Cannes has reinforced its role as forerunner in world cinema, from the discovery and promotion of films and artists to the implementation of new activities to support creativity. It also includes a range of cultural and artistic activities such as forums, tributes, masterclasses and exhibits, and a high-profile competition, the highlight of which is the Palme d'Or award.

In 1959, the Marché du Film was created to bring a commercial element to the artistic festival and has since enabled an ever-increasing number of countries to promote their culture and cinema and to support their producers and film industries.

The Cannes Market, where films are bought, sold and financed, is one of the leading film markets in the world  and is reserved for film industry professionals. To participate in the festival, you must be accredited. Requests for accreditation are made online on the Festival de Cannes website.

Producers on the Move

Fís Éireann/Screen Ireland is an active member of European Film Promotion (EFP), the only existing international network of organisations promoting and marketing European cinema worldwide.

Each year, 20 promising, up-and-coming producers from throughout Europe are selected to participate in PRODUCERS ON THE MOVE - 477 over the last 22 years. The initiative is aimed at connecting young, enterprising European producers with potential co-production partners, strengthening their industry networks and, at the same time, providing a solid and visible platform for this next generation of European filmmakers. The producers go through a rigorous selection process which places the top contenders in a tightly focused working environment. They take part in project pitching, 1:1 meetings and case studies, social events and an extensive promotion campaign, which includes online presentation and an introduction in the international trades.
